JFW 2013; Three Young and Vibrant Designers Nailed the KODO
Jakarta Fashion Week is a place for designers creativity, indeed. We can see many brand-sponsored designers, and that usually impresses me because typically, designers will follow a specific theme given to them. If that were me, I could imagine it is not easy at all to interpret the theme. It’d be a different story if I could pick my own theme, I have the freedom and unlimited ideas. But I guess, these three young designers must be feel challenged and excited about it.
Mazda presents three young and vibrant designers for Jakarta Fashion Week 2013: Friederich Herman, Toton Januar, and Cynthia Tanujaya. The theme for three of them was “KODO – Soul of Motion” which is the newest design theme from Mazda. Each designer brought their own interpretation on to their collection for the show.
Friederich Herman – My jaw dropped when I read his achievements. At a young age, Friederich already got so many recognitions, locally and internationally!
Finalist, Most Promising Young Designer of the Year, Malaysia International Fashion Award (MIFA) 2008, Malaysia.
Second Prize, Lomba Perancang Mode (LPM) Femina 2011 @ Jakarta Fashion Week 2012, Indonesia.
Winner, Gading Fashion Entrepreneurship Award 2012 @ Jakarta Food & Fashion Festival (JFFF) 2012, Indonesia.
Winner, Lomba Perancang Mode (LPM) Entrepreneur Award 2012 @ Jakarta Fashion Week 2013, Indonesia.
And for Jakarta Fashion Week 2013, he showed masculine and modern side of women. Nothing feminine, nothing soft. Black and white spoke a strong dynamic sense, and Friederich also played with digital printing in his collection, making them edgier.
Friederich’s eponymous brand’s raison d’etre established in January 2012. The brand provides clean and classic clothing mixed with urban, nonchalant edgy vibe. You can visit the showroom at 28D Shangri La Residences, Jl. Jend. Sudirman kav. 1, Jakarta Pusat 10220. Or you can visit his website http://www.friederichherman.com/ to see his collections.
Toton Januar – The young designer known for his work of combining traditional and modern elements. And he did it again on Jakarta Fashion Week 2013, yeay!
I love his collection! They are so wearable and revealing the chic vibe in such a casual way. You’ll spot embroidery in each look and almost every models wore the headpiece, those that remind you of the patterns in traditional outfits and the old kingdoms in Indonesia, right? I had to give him applause because he put the embroidery at the great spot and in perfect dose, not too much, just enough.
Toton Januar has his own brand, “TOTON” which aspires to highlight on exotic twists of artistry and wearability. You can check his website http://www.totonthelabel.com/ for more information about Toton Januar.
Cynthia Tanjuaya – The only lady in the trio! For closing, Cynthia Tan – that’s the name that she used on stage – gave a nice finale by showing her glamour collection. In her “Lavish Baroque”, she presented the futuristic elegant style in the form of dresses and gowns. I love the details in every single look, and how things were covered at the rights places
That happy and proud moment when you know there are a lot of Indonesian young fashion designers Stay tuned because we’ll post more articles of other young talents!
