Today's Outfit: A Little May & June Flair in January

seo-img-article

One of my resolutions for 2015 is to dress a little more — my everyday look is dark wash jeans paired with a lightweight button-up rolled up at the sleeves. Super utilitarian, and also super blah, so I wanted to challenge myself this year by (gulp) dressing my age and putting a little more effort into my office wear.

For a little inspiration, we dropped by the May & June store in Jakarta’s Plaza Senayan to see what they had in store, and I ended up trying out several looks from their floral-inspired collection, with a hint of Mondrian-style blocking. As you can see in the photos below, their versatility lends into the formal and casual-formal fields.

I love that fiery orangey-red skirt on the left: it’s flowy but has a solid weight to it, so I don’t have to worry about acidental updrafts. For something a little more serious, I tried on a pencil skirt and the most Mad Men-esque floral blazer this side of South Jakarta! And you see that floral print? That’s an original design, and you can tell because there are parts in the pattern that actually read “May & June.” Nice touch!

In the end while I love me some classic jeans-and-shirt combo for practicality, it never hurts to power up and give myself a little upgrade. It’s what Beyonce would want for me.

May & June is located at Senayan City, 2nd Floor #2-1 (021-72781126). Follow them on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter to keep up with latest styles.
