Indonesian Designers Prepare for Paris Fashion Week

The past few weeks have been pretty exciting, what with Fashion Weeks having commenced in style capitals of the world like New York, London, and Milan. All the hullabaloo is whetting my appetite for the fashion week we can call our own: Jakarta Fashion Week will take place between October 19-25 at Senayan City. But there’s more to JFW than just runway shows and after-parties, as we learned in a press conference earlier this week.

A program called Indonesia Fashion Forward has will be flying four designers to Paris to take part in Trace SS ’14, a trade show held smack bang in the middle of Paris Fashion Week. At this trade show, designers will exhibit their Spring/Summer ’14 collections and interact with international buyers and press, therefore exposing them directly to the world press and potential new markets. The four designers and labels who have been selected for the program are Tex Saverio, Toton Januar, Yosafat Dwi Kurniawan, and Ari Seputra (Major Minor). Of these four, Tex Saverio will be the only one holding a runway show; sadly, he was also the only one who was unavailable for Q&A that night. It was too bad, because we were curious about the preparation that went behind holding two runway shows in Fashion Weeks located on two continents!
