Yay or Nay: Victoria Beckham Tent Dress

seo-img-article

Victoria Beckham wrote this recently on her Twitter: “My favourite piece from VVB (Victoria by Victoria Beckham) SS14″, sharing a picture of a billowing baby blue tent dress. She was then caught on camera stepping out in New York wearing the same dress, drawing comments and criticism from all corners of the internet who reacted to her unconventional wardrobe choice in place of her usual body-clinging size zero attire.

“There’s nothing like a bit of self promotion – even if it means you look like you’re wearing a dress that’s eight sizes too big,” she said in an interview with The Mirror.

Others were less fond: The Guardian‘s Cassie Carpenter wrote that “…while the item of clothing is intended to be fashion forward, it hardly flattered Victoria’s tiny frame, swamping her very thin figure with it’s voluminous fit.”

The blue 1960s-inspired frock had a quilted texture with a wide drop-waist and a ribbed, high-low skirt. It instantly caught my eye with its fresh and contemporary look. I think she looks exquisitely stunning on that dress, teaming it up with chic black bootie heels, large sunglasses and a slightly messy ponytail.

The dress itself speaks volumes, turning your silhouette into something oversized without looking sloppy. Unfortunately for me, I don’t see my hijaber self wearing this sort of dress; it’s a dress meant to be worn alone, which means no layering over or under it. But I do look forward to seeing high street denizens snapped in this oversized-style dress for street style pics!

So what do you think of the dress? Would you slip into it?
