Yay or Nay: Miley Cyrus at the 2013 VMAs

Let’s talk about what happened at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards, but more specifically, let’s talk about what Miley Cyrus wore onstage during her performance at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards!

Her red carpet outfit was uneventful enough: a bejeweled black D&G two-piece made up of a long-sleeved crop top and high-waist tights. It’s a pretty simple getup for an awards red carpet, but then again this is the MTV VMAs, where unconventional has always been king.

So she walked the red carpet in a sensible enough outfit, but things really started to get interesting when she performed her hit summer smash, We Can’t Stop. Miley pelvic-thrusted her way onto center stage in a custom gray one-piece (with what appears to be an inebriated carton mouse stitched onto the chest and torso) before taking it off to reveal a pair of flesh-colored PVC bra and briefs.

Remember, we’re not here to pass judgement on the quality of Miley’s performance! I think we can agree that all she’s trying to do is shed the squeaky-clean image that started with her Hannah Montana days. Props to her for exploring her identity by embracing her womanhood and sexuality, but we’re not here to talk about how she chose to do it. Just remember that Generation Y’s own pop princess took a similar turn that shocked loyal fans in the earlier years of her career on the VMA stage as well.

So what do you think? Do we like the stage costume, or do we love it?
