Lipstick Monday: Guerlain Rouge G L’Extrait #Colère

Liquid lipstick was the big thing last year and it continues through this year as well. Many brands came out with their own version, even drugstore brands. I’ve tried YSL Glossy Stains, the first to come out, and loved them. In Fall 2012, Guerlain launched its own version in a velvety matte finish. Of course, I was curious about Guerlain’s take on it. Besides, Guerlain is known to have one of the best lipstick formulas out there.

From looking around the swatches around the blogospheres, I knew I wanted one particular shade out of the seven.

Say hello to Guerlain Rouge G L’Extrait M25 Colère.

This is by far, the heaviest (and expensive) lipstick I own. I could actually hurt someone with it, not that’s what I’m going to do, just to clarify here. The packaging is made out of metal, in silver color. As you can see from the photo above, mine’s all scratched up now, from tumbling around in my bag. As much as I’d like to keep it smooth and shiny, it’s just bound to happen. It looks like a fat silver bullet, doesn’t it?

The whole mechanism is kind of nifty, although it took me a few times to get the hang of it. When you pull the cap, a double mirror will pop out for you to use. The mirror makes it super convenient. I don’t have to bring my pocket mirror when I’m carrying this. It’s proven handy especially when I’m in a party or anywhere I need a quick touch up; though I rarely do. There’s something chic and intimidating at the same time when I pull it out and wear it.

The applicator is proper to carry the thick texture of this liquid lipstick. It’s not as precise as YSL’s, but I’m still able to line my lips nicely with it. As with applying any red lipstick, I like to smudge and dab it around on the lips with my ring finger to even it out and create a more natural look. It’s creamy, opaque and pigmented. It feels quite lightweight on my lips. It locks in moisture pretty well, although it starts to feel a little uncomfortable after 10 hours of wear. That’s amazing I’d say.

Colère stays put like a boss! Seriously, for a liquid lipstick, this thing stays longer than many of my other lipsticks. One note to mention, somehow this never dries completely. So it will transfer, pretty much throughout the day. But, the wonderful thing is the pigmentation is not reduced. It doesn’t feather nor bleed which is important in my book for red lipsticks.

I LOVE IT! This is one of the few bright reds I own. It is a striking bright red, with a hint of cool coral. The coral touch really gives the red something extra special. It brightens up my face instantly. I always get compliments when I wear this. It’s such an eye catching red. And you bet, whenever I take the ‘bullet’ out, it will start conversations.

I have a cousin who rarely wears makeup. She tried this on, and eventually bought it not long after. She likes how it feels on her lips as it doesn’t feel heavy. And of course, the red shade is beautiful. From no makeup then jumped straight to buy a red lipstick, and a Guerlain one, mind you, that’s one true proof of the power of mighty lipsticks. :D
