This week’s battle involves two giant fashion powerhouses pitting their Summer 2013 makeup collections head to head. Dior has aptly named named their collection Bird of Paradise, while Chanel named theirs L’Été Papillon de Chanel.
Both collections were launched some time ago. While both are breathtakingly stunning, I can’t help but notice a similarity: the major color themes are blues and greens with a touch of coral.
Let’s start with Dior.
And now Chanel.
Ok, let me just inhale and absorb all the goodness in those pictures. I could look at them every day.
Upon closer look, Dior really churned in the blues and greens, especially in their eye shadows and nail polishes. The pinks and corals are more of a complementing accent color. On the other hand, Chanel tried to be fair and shared the love of pink, coral, and gold equally across the lineup. The colorful mascaras are hot! I doubt I could pull them off though, as I don’t have a lot of lash to begin with. The campaign photo sure make them look amazing, though.
Both companies debuted new products this season. Dior added another lip product called the Jelly Lip Pen. They’re similar to Clinique Chubby Sticks and the like. Chanel came out with the Style Eyeshadow, something that we previously saw in the form of the Laura Mercier Caviar Eye Stick Eye Color and Bobbi Brown Long Wear Cream Shadow Sticks.
When it comes to sticking to inspiration, I think both are on the right track with the peacock and butterflies. Another thing they have in common is how they both are a feast for my eyes. The bold, cooling effect of blues and greens with the warmth of coral really tickled my senses. They are perfect for summer. Undoubtedly two of the best summer makeup collections.
I like them both, really, I do. But what wins it for me is Dior’s Diorskin Nude Tan Paradise Duo Bronzer & Blush. Remember this? Yes, they came out with an updated version with half of it being a blush. There are two colors, Pink Glow and Coral Glow. I want them. They just shot up straight to the top of my wishlist.
Which collection do you like better?
