Remember how Deszell did the back-this-season plaid skirt? Challenge accepted! This is the same kind of knee-length pencil skirt, (even though this was bought ‘after hijab’ period, I’ve got some plaid skirts from the ‘before hijab’. But of course, since I was still a teenager then, they’re a-line skirt) and yes I can still use it as my everyday wear.
Well, this is a savior for my 2 items that won’t work to be worn themselves. I used to have an argument with myself of whether to sell this skirt to Market Plaza or just keep it. I like – more than like, I treasure – the plaid motif and color. As this is a knee-length skirt, how am I suppose to wear it. Of course, the famous ‘kalimat sakti‘ from Sales Assistant to hijabers, “baguus kak, tinggal dikasih dalaman”. Being a hijabers, isn’t as simple as that.
I also have another item that is a big no no for hijabers. It’s a skinny jeans from Zara? One of the hijab rules I keep in getting dressed: I’ll never wear skinny jeans with short hem (short hem means one that fall at lower tigh and up). So when this plaid skirt is worn over jeans, it kind of solved two problems at the same time. Great idea, isn’t it?
Oh and tips on wearing short skirt over pants: carefully choose the pants. Putting on a skirt means you have to make another ‘cut’ along your bottom, and it tends to make a shorter image. So choose a pair of pants/light jeans that fall below your ankles. If your skirt is knee-length or shorter, definitely a no for leggings. Leggings is only okay for a maxi or 7/8 length.
Find the perfect plaid and you’ll always look young! Plaid pattern is classic and eternal. Unlike curvy pattern, plaid is considered younger and more modern. It may not be popular over past years, but it seems to gain its popularity this year! I’ve even spotted many kinds of plaid and checks at the Indonesian Fashion Week exhibition.
