Why Andy Warhol? It’s the question asked by WWD when they interviewed Francois Nars, founder and creative director of the brand. Which is exactly would be my question as well. “Why not Andy Warhol?” is the answer he gave. He added, “I have always surrounded myself with Andy’s work and even paid tribute to him in my past collections — Edie Eyeshadow, Chelsea Girls Lip Lacquer, etcetera. This just seems like the right time to do [a bigger effort]. Even more than 20 years after his death, Andy continues to be one of the most influential figures in both contemporary art and pop culture. Andy said, ‘If everybody’s not a beauty, then nobody is.’ This is the same sentiment I wanted to bring to life with Nars — a forward-thinking attitude toward beauty, and the encouragement to inspire self-expression, creativity and artistry in the women who wear it. It seemed like a natural fit to create a collection that Andy himself might have a hand in if he were alive today.”
This collection is going to be the NARS Holiday Collection, which means it’s still going to be couple of months before you’re going to be able to get a hold onto this. But since it is split into two offerings, with the first one will be launched exclusively at Sephora, you can expect to see it first as soon as 1 October. Whereas the rest of the collection that will be rolled out throughout department and specialty stores, a completely separate lineup, will be launched from 1 November onward.
