I’ve written a report on the backstage of Mercedes-Benz Miami Fashion Week Swim 2013 here, now how about we try to recreate those looks at home?

During my trip to Miami, I was invited to a fabulous lunch by Make Up For Ever at the exclusive Soho Beach House, a member-only private club situated in a historic site of the Sovereign Hotel. A long table was set up by the pool decorated with fresh flowers and colorful Aqua products.

It was a nice and sunny (okay, hot) day, everyone was relaxed, the food was beautiful and most importantly, we got to chat with James and Lottie, the key makeup artists for Mercedes-Benz Miami Fashion Week Swim 2013. Not only that, they even gave us an exclusive demo to show us how to recreate these two looks – one the double winged eyeliner look seen at Dolores Cortes show – and the beautifully-sunkissed look similar to what we saw on the models of Poko Pano.

Double the liner, double the fun

  • Start with using HD Foundation. Instead of applying primer first, Lottie mixed it with the foundation to sheer it out and make the finish even more luminous
  • Contour your face with bronzer, don’t put too much please! It still has to look natural
  • To create the winged liner, Lottie used Aqua Black. If you don’t have any, you can use Aqua Liner in Black, which I’ve reviewed here.
  • For the top line, start with the outer corner, working your way into the lash line. Lottie’s tips is to keep your eyes open while doing this type of liner, so you won’t get the lines to look “loopy”. Another trick? Look up, now down as it is easier for you to see your whole lids.

  • For the bottom line, draw a straight line from the inside out then connect the bottom line with the top line
  • Lightly dust Sculpting Blush #22 on your cheeks
  • For the lips, Lottie used Aqua Lip #16 to line and fill the lips with Aqua Cream #7
  • Don’t forget to wear this bold look with some attitude 🙂

From the beach to the board room

  • James used Face & Body Liquid Makeup on the models’ face and buff the product using a buffing brush
  • Instead of using a highlighter, James suggested to use foundation in lighter colors to apply on the high planes of our face, such as the forehead, nose bridge and cheekbones.
  • And instead of bronzer, James prefers to use foundation 2-3 shades darker than our skin tone to used as a shading
  • James created an “ombre effect” on the eyebrows, by using brow pencil (in this case he used Aqua Brow) in taupe shade and Aqua Eyes in #24L and then brushing some gold metallic Aqua Cream, like #11

  • Focus color on the lids, use Aqua Shadow in shades like gold, gilded, bronze  or 22E, 26E and 28E that complement most skin tones and blend using your finger
  • Instead of using black mascara that can sometimes look too strong, use brown mascara instead
  • When curling your lashes, turn the curler upwards
  • Use taupe-colored pencil, such as Aqua Eyes in 24L, on the bottom lash to create depth
  • Use nude Aqua Lip on the lips, such as #2C or #3C and to create a monochromatic look, use the same lip liner for your cheeks.
  • James also used Lab Shine in coral shade on the center of the lips which he mixed with a blue-based Lab Shine (such as pink) to make the lips pop even more
  • Lastly, use Uplight to add more highlight to your face.
  • Voila! You’ll look beautiful enough to go to the beach, have lunch with friends or even attend a meeting at a boardroom!
