Want to be part of one of the biggest fashion event in the region? Then you should visit Singapore in May and visit the Asia Fashion Exchange (AFX). It is entering its third year and it sounds that it’s going to be more exciting than ever.
What is AFX? It’s a fashion show, business conference, trade show and fashion design competition represented by these events: Audi Fashion Festival, Asia Fashion Summit, Blueprint and Audi Star Creation. Covering all aspects of the fashion industry. Whether you’re a buyer, fashion designer or just someone who happens to have interest in fashion – expect to find something that excite you.
Why is it going to be exciting? Here is why…
Audi Fashion Festival: The Teaser 16 – 20 May 2012, Tent@Orchard, Ngee Ann City Civic Plaza, Singapore
It’s going to be a five-day show full of exciting line-ups, with some of the most well-known international, regional, and of course, Singapore designers. This year’s theme is “Lighting the Future”, we’re curious how the mix of designers that are going to showcase their latest collection will give a direction to Asia fashion for this season onward.
So, which designers need to be highlighted?
Thierry Mugler is going to open the festival on 16 May. Its Creative Director, Nicola Formichetti will be present at the opening. Thierry Mugler is going to showcase their Fall/Winter 2012 collection. It will be really interesting to see the unmistakeably avant-garde touch of the French fashion house. Especially, with the trend going towards the 3D effect, of which Mugler excels at. A fun fact about Formichetti: he finds the digital world very interesting and a big fan of the web and social media. Surely, he’ll keep us posted from the front row on what’s happening on the opening of the AFX 2012
Next designer to watch for is the French designer Roland Mouret. I’ve seen Victoria Beckham, known to be one of his loyal clients, dashing the world in Mouret’s pieces. Rumour has it, that he even give his helping hand to Victoria Beckham when she first started her own collection of dresses as her trusted mentor. It’s going to be interesting to see Mouret’s collection for the Fall/Winter 2012 and which piece is going to be the iconic one this season.
Another one that is worth to note down is the Alldressedup show, that is going to showcase their latest collection. Along with Raoul, Alldressedup is Singapore very own home grown label that has achieve international success. It’s definitely worth to watch for, because in the near future, they’re going to open up a store in Plaza Senayan, Ground Floor. This brand is said to be a mastige brand with prestige brand “charm, style and design aesthetic”, as quoted from their site.
The latest news also confirm that Zac Posen will be present at the event and will be showing his latest Fall/Winter 2012 as well as few pre-spring collection.
Other than the three I highlighted above, the young talents from the 2011 PARCO Next Next Project, which support new designers will be showcasing their collection as well, and those are worth to note as well.

Audi Star Creation 14 May 2012, Tent@Orchard, Ngee Ann City Civic Plaza
The last bit of AFX which aims to find the next rising star of Asia. The 12 selected designers from around the region will compete to be the winner of this year’s Audi Star Creation. They’re competing for three spots to showcase their collections at the Audi Fashion Festival Red Carpet Gala Night on 15 May, prize money of $10,000 and also one year internship with leading retailer FJ Benjamin, as well as a chance to launch a capsule collection at Audi Star Creation 2013.
We have our hope high for 22 years old Natalia Kiantoro, the only contestant from Indonesia, that she’ll do well in this competition.
Anyway, are you going to be in Singapore in any of the date I mentioned above? If you are, which event are you most interested to come?
