Laura Mercier Eye Basics, priced at $24 for 5.1g will be a great eye primer alternative for those people having sensitive reaction with eye primer which contains silicone such as cult favourite Urban Decay Primer Potion or Too Faced Shadow Insurance. Laura Mercier new Eye Basics is available in 7 different shades which cater to most skin tone. With freshly updated formula enriched with botanical extracts, aloe vera and chamomile that will soothe the eyelids. It also comes with added benefit of Vitamins A, E and C providing anti-oxidant protections.
What I love about Eye Basics is that it is easily blendable when you apply it but it comes to a creamy semi-matte finish instead of greasy silicon-y finish. It is not too powdery as well, unlike MAC Prep+prime eyes therefore would be perfect for neutral shade eyeshadows. Not only you can use this product as primer but you can use it alone to add a little color to your eyes and light up your lids if you’re in a hurry. Just use your Eye Basics, add a little liner and finish it off with mascara and you’re ready to go. The staying power is amazing, for both colourful and neutral shade my eyeshadow stay put for the whole day. Although this primer does not help to enhance eyeshadow colour like Urban Decay Primer Potion. No visible creasing detected due to the natural clays, although I see that on the crease area the colour is slightly more subdue than the rest.
I would not recommend applying Eye Basics directly using its wand because sometime bacteria can be transferred from the skin to the rest of the product on the tube. Use clean fingertips or brushes made from synthetic hair to apply to the entire eyelids up to the brow bone.
