Cleansing Oil? Yes, please!

If you have read FD Best of Beauty Awards 2012 – Skincare, you’ll notice that Shu Uemura Cleansing Oil is listed second for the best facial cleanser. I’m here to simply agree.

I’ve always known Shu Uemura for their eyelash curlers and cleansing oil. But, I was one of the many people that have doubts about the idea of cleansing oil. Oil, to cleanse the skin, really? The idea of slathering oil all over my face isn’t exactly an amusing thought, it’s quite repulsive to be honest. But hey, that was back then.

I went to a Shu Uemura Beauty Workshop quite a while ago and finally got the chance to try out the legendary cleansing oil. I was surprised to find out that they have 6 varieties catered for different skin types and needs. I tried the one that’s suited for dry and sensitive skin. I was more than impressed and finally bought one for myself a week later.

The one that I purchased is the Cleansing Beauty Oil Premium A/I.

The instructions suggested to use 3-4 pumps, but I find one pump and (less) a half is enough for my whole face. This isn’t cheap, so I want to make sure I don’t waste any product. Even so, it still works wonderfully, just as promised.

I think the important key here is to massage it well over the skin before emulsifying it with water. That way, the oil could really seep into the makeup, breaking it down. It removes my Bobbi Brown No Smudge Mascara and my red lipsticks in almost no time at all.

Shu Uemura stated double cleansing is not needed. I still do it though. Not because of I’m afraid there would be any oil residue left, but because there are areas that my fingers and palms can’t reach such as around the nose and inside the pores/fine lines. I always double cleanse with my Clarisonic afterwards.

One thing to underline here, Shu really cleanses all of my makeup. How do I know? By looking at my Clarisonic brush. I used to use makeup remover wipes beforehand. After I used Clarisonic with my facial wash, I can still see quite a few makeup residue left on the brush. With Shu, I barely see any.

Premium A/I has soothing Licorice Root Derivative and moisturizing Amino Acids. Its unique chamomile-based herbal aroma has relaxing and calming properties. It makes the skin refined, soft, smooth and plump. My dry sensitive skin definitely felt these benefits after 2 weeks of use.

A fantastic facial cleanser that has skincare properties; what’s not to love, really?

As this is a considerably expensive product, I bought the small bottle first of 150 ml (just in case I get a bad reaction, I wouldn’t be so remorseful). With the little amount that I use, I predict this size will last me about 6 months. It comes up to a very good deal, I think.

I am aware that there are other brands that offer cleansing oils with cheaper tags. I just happened to try my first with Shu Uemura, fall in love with it and will repurchase it. I might even try out the green one (with green tea and anti-aging ingredients).

Shu Uemura Cleansing Beauty Oil Premium A/I is sold at IDR 490,000 (150 ml) and IDR 1,070,000 (450 ml) over the counters.

So, have any of you tried Shu Uemura Cleansing Oils? Which one is your favorite?
