The Transformative Power of Red Lipstick in Film

Ursula (voiced by Pat Carroll) in The Little Mermaid

This scene of Ursula applying lipstick was my favorite moment in Disney’s The Little Mermaid, and I spent the rest of my childhood looking forward to the day I was of lipstick-wearing age. I think Ursula is one of he more misunderstood Disney villains; she was just a businesswoman who rendered services, and she applied the red lipstick before making her sales pitch to Ariel. As far as I’m concerned, ARIEL is the real villain of this movie: Ariel was the one reneged on the contract that she signed on her own volition. Boo, Ariel, boo. I’m writing up a bad review of you when I see you on eBay.

Since first watching this scene as a kid, I’ve been waiting for a tube  of lipstick that looks just like Ursula’s. Her shade is a universally-flattering cool blue-red with coral tones and a slightly glossy finish to it — the perfect shade for the perfect woman.
