In this scene, we see the beautiful Melanie Laurent doll up (SPOILER ALERT!) right before she burns down her own cinema, which was packed with high-ranking officials from the Nazi party. The scene is filmed in a way that depicted her as a a warrior putting on war paint before battle.
The movie is set in a parallel universe-World War 2 Europe, but it does not stray from the cosmetics conventions of the 1940s that we know. The red here we see is the classic matte blue-red, reminiscent of the beauty ideals that were established in that decade.
