I’ve never been one for nude lipsticks: the only lipstick I own that isn’t a derivative of red is the Shiseido Perfect Rouge in PK 303. For a good year and a half, nude lipstick has just not been something I care for — but then I bought the NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in Istabul on a whim, and people started coming up to me to say that it suited me. Flattery is cheap, but it works on me and I bought the compliments hook, line, and sinker. I started to explore more nude lip option, and was extremely lucky to run into a new addition to the Estée Lauder that took nude lipsticks to a new level.
The Pure Color Envy Shine Sculpting Lipstick is a new addition of lipstick formulas to the Estée Lauder family, and the range is only available in Asia. I’m personally not a fan of “regional-exclusive” products, because depriving specific regions of potentially winning products is downright cruel — but boy am I glad this one made it past our borders 🙂
One of the first things you feel upon initial application is how comfortable it is on the lips: it feels creamy and rich, as if halfway between a satin lipstick and a plumping lip gloss. I mention plumping lip gloss because there’s a sculpting aspect to the formula that adds dimension to the lips, thanks to a specially-molded bullet. The secret to the formula’s long-lasting hydration effect is hyaluronic acid, which helps to keep lips hydrated over the course of 4-6 hours, so you never have to worry about chapped lips. This would be a GREAT lipstick to have for long-haul flights, since flight cabins tend to be very dry environments.
I got a tube of this lipstick in a shade called Graceful, a lovely sheer nude-pink with really great color payoff. Apply it once for a sheer, barely-there look; otherwise, build it up until it reaches the crystalline opaque effect that you are looking for.
