New Beyoncé Video Alert: Pretty Hurts

seo-img-article

In late April, Beyoncé aka Queen of the World and Monarch of My Heart, released a new video to a track called Pretty Hurts. The song’s subject and accompanying music video are relevant to the both of us, dear reader, because chances are good that we both consume products that the beauty industry churns out on a regular basis (why else would you be reading Female Daily? 😉 )

The lyrics to the song basically talk about the struggles of keeping up with the world’s ever-fluctuating obsession, perceptions, and ideals of beauty. Meanwhile, the video spotlights the trend of beauty pageants and the Olympic athlete-level of discipline it takes to maintain the face and figure expected in these beauty pageants: it features some of the gruesome extremes that people go through to meet these expectations, like plastic surgery, purging, and eating cotton balls.

I think Beyoncé is obviously trying to push a positive message through these videos, because we live in a world where wildly unrealistic expectations of women’s beauty have a tendency to bleed over into daily life (so much so that plastic surgery is becoming more and more commonplace). So don’t buy into the advertising: if you want to wear blue mascara, great! If red lipstick makes you nervous, that’s okay! If you want to wear make up, do it! If you don’t want to wear make up, then don’t! Whatever you do, don’t hurt yourself in the name of looking good.

Beauty is an incredibly personal subject — why you put on makeup is absolutely nobody’s business, but deep down in my heart I hope you’re putting it on for you <3

PS. OBVIOUSLY she looks great in every scene of this video.
