Friday Fragrance: Elie Saab L'Eau Couture

One thing I like about designer fragrance is how the scent is basically an extension of the designer’s style. Elie Saab is a favorite among red carpet starlets and brides-to-be everywhere for his designs.

Over the years, he has refined his signature look: this characteristic look involves light and luxurious materials, a silhouette that’s skin-tight on top and free-flowing towards the bottom, and an abundance of intricate floral and embellishment work. The people who look to him for their dream dresses probably also idealize a canon of traits often applied to Kate Middleton or Disney Princesses: ladylike, ethereal, honeyed articulation.

I think it’s no surprise if the same group of women end up flocking to his latest perfume, the Elie Saab L’Eau Couture.

IMG_1268The fragrance is poured into a pretty faceted crystalline bottle, very similar to the bottling of its older sister, the Elie Saab Le Parfum. Like it’s older sister, the L’Eau Couture is fresh and floral, but with a less woody note. Its perfumer, Francis Kurkdjian, wanted to create something “…sophisticated, [with] sensual freshness, far removed from the conventions found in fragrances usually created in this repertoire.”

Whoa. That’s a pretty big claim but does it live up to it? Judge for yourself with this brief breakdown of its key ingredients:

Top notes: Light, citrus scents from Calabrian bergamot, magnolia, and orange blossom
Middle notes: Orange blossom. This is the same scent that made the Elie Saab Le Parfum so popular
Base notes: Green almond, vanilla infusion

And for the verdict? I like this scent, but that’s because I’m partial to light florals and pretty bottles. It’s a great daytime fragrance that’s perfect for spring, so if you like floral and citrusy scents — and if you liked the Elie Saab Le Parfum — there’s a very good chance that you’ll like this one too.

Elie Saab has been winning the fragrance game for me so far, and I hope his winning streak continues. Is there another fashion house whose designs and bottled scents are you winning you over? Sound off in the comments 😉

Elie Saab L’Eau Couture retails at IDR 605,000 (30 ml), IDR 950,000 (50 ml), and IDR 1, 230,000 (90 ml).
