Why Do We Need Facials Anyway?

seo-img-article

How many times  a month do you go for a facial? In an ideal world, I’d like to get mine once a week: not only are facials a great way to keep skin in prime condition, but the actual experience of lying down and having a skincare expert massage  your face has stress-relieving properties as well 😀

I was lucky enough to experience a facial at the Pacific Place’s Galeries Lafayette with none other than SK-II. This was actually an extra treat simply because of the fact that SK-II provides its facials free of charge to elite card-carrying members, so I became  part of a pretty small skin care club 😀

The first thing that the SK-II advisers did was check the condition of my skin with the Magic Ring Skin Test.

skii magic ringThis was a pretty cool device which tests for the five dimensions of skin health: these are Texture Refinement, Firmness Power, Wrinkle Resilience, Spot Control, and Radiance Enhancement. I would be lying if I told you I wasn’t nervous about how my results would turn out. There’s nothing more terrifying than a machine telling you what your shortcomings are!

After the consultant pressed the camera against my skin, I waited for the results with bated breath. But my worries were unfounded, because as it turned out, my skin was actually in pretty decent condition! I did better than average on four aspects of the 5 dimension analysis, with my Spot Control results being the lowest (32%). The numbers gave me a cumulative score of 54% , and an average skin age of 24 (I turn 27 in April).

It also helped that the SK-II was not discouraging about my shortcoming in the spot control department. She cheerily encouraged me to be more conscious about sun protection, before I develop premature dark spots within the next ten years. She was even more happy to see that my skin was higher than average in the radiance department as well. “Don’t wear foundation,” she told me. “Your skin is already pretty glowy.”

But she went on to say that if I were to regularly use SK-II products, I could have the skin of a 22 year-old. And since I’ve reached an age where I actually want to be mistaken for an age younger than I am, that sounded like a pretty good deal. The Magic Ring machine can also simulate the look of your skin in ten years

After learning what my skin needed most (spot control) she took me to Beauty Lounge for my long-awaited facial.
