Jakarta Style Beat: Shows and Shops

seo-img-article

All manner of exciting developments are happening in the Jakarta fashion scene right now. Let’s start with that’s going on in Fashion Week Preparations:

Senayan Fashion Nation

The eighth installment of Senayan City Fashion Nation is set  to kick off later on this month. Between March 27 – April 6, look forward to a week of fashion from some of our young style luminaries. This year’s theme is called Infinite Style, which represents unlimited fashion. Here’s a glimpse from last year’s opening show:

audifashionnationarisThe hugely successful Runway Hits show will be back, and here’s what I like about that particular show: it’s also prophetic, because it showcases upcoming talents that are bound to be the talk of the town later on in the season. Last year’s show featured the work of Major Minor, Yosafat Dwi Kurniawan, Rama Dauhan, and Yogie Pratama — all names that we’ve seen featured in print publications and discussed over and over again lovingly here at FD.

This year’s Runway Hits show will feature some of my personal favorite new talents too: Patrick Owen and Peggy Hartanto, as well as international designers Joe Chia (Malaysia) and Rayson Tan (Singapore). Remember last year’s event? It was an absolute blast, and I’m sure this year will see even more of the same. Read all about it here.

Jakarta Fashion Week: Indonesia Fashion Forward at Paris Fashion Week

One of the more anticipated shows at Jakarta Fashion Week is Indonesia Fashion Forward, another prophetic show which highlights budding names in the Indonesian fashion scene. Labels that have curated by IFF go on to show their work at Paris Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2014 buyer rooms. This year’s candidates are not unfamiliar to foreign shores: Major Minor, Tex Saverio, Toton, Vinora, and Yosafat Dwi Kurniawan.

Major Minor produced a special collection for Harvey Nichols, Yosafat Dwi Kurniawan has already shown off his work at Paris Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2014, while Tex Saverio has actually walked at Paris Fashion Week. Relive Tex’s first outing on a Parisian catwalk here:
