I’m not overly fussy when it comes to makeup, especially eye makeup: my daily routine consists of black pencil eyeliner on the waterline, followed by an application of black liquid eyeliner to the lid. Depending on my mood/eyeliner/hand-eye coordination that day, I usually end up with some sort of ersatz wingtip or cat eye look.
So after years of experimentation — resulting in both beautiful cat eyes or tragic smudged tragedies — I’ve put together a list of my favorite black liquid liners to date. Did yours make the list?
I picked this up because the Volume Clubbing Mascarahappens to be one of my favorite mascaras around. The eyeliner from the same range did not disappoint, with an intense formula that glides on smooth and opaque. Part of its cheeky claims include to have been “Tested and approved by clubbers, Liner Clubbing lasts up to 8 hours without running or smudging in the hottest, sweatiest, and steamiest conditions.” Well I guess if it’s good enough for sweaty dance floor action, then it’s good enough for my tame desk-monkeying.
This one was quite a surprise! I was looting my sister’s makeup collection and found a gem in the form of the cheap and cheerful liquid eyeliner by drugstore cosmetics brand, Almay. I had always pictured it as the grandmother of all drugstore makeup brands, because the packaging was a little, well, blah. But you know what? Who really cares about packaging if you can get a perfectly-performing product at a great price?
If you like long-lasting formulas and broad-tipped applicators that make usage a breeze, then you will love this. The Kat Von D Tattoo Liner is great even for beginners, but only if you don’t mind the somewhat tacky artwork on the packaging! It comes with a felt applicator that makes it really easy , and the slim pen packaging makes it great to carry around in in purses.
The ultimate liquid eyeliner in budget beauty buys, and also a favorite with SalvatoreG. The long-lasting formula can hold its own against pricier competitors, because it’s waterproof and doesn’t look plasticky or glossy on application. While the shape of the packaging isn’t necessarily ergonomic or space-saving, it has a great applicator: it comes in the form of a broad felt tip for making perfect wing tip eyes all the time.
Aaaaaah. This liquid eyeliner is my jam. Although the formula promises a staying power of up to 15 hours, I can tell you that it has managed to surpass that promise by staying in place for more than 24 — even on my oily lids! The applicator is a sturdy felt tip, which makes for idiot-proof flicks every time.
