Monochrome Madness

Black and white is not dead. Far from it! Fashion is cyclical, so I doubt it’ll ever really fade out into oblivion. Black and white will always be one of the safest color combos you can wear on your person for daily activities, but “safe” doesn’t always have to mean “boring.” Check out how you can jazz up the following black and white looks with corresponding beauty essentials from the same color palette.

These two-tone looks are part of Mango’s Spring/Summer 2014 collection, which keep the overall feel of the outfit strong and structured but still relaxed. Accompany this look by sporting two-tone nails, with the gorgeous dark grey Stormy Weather nail polish by Deborah Lippman and Snow White from Models Own. For extra fun, add a geometric flair to your manicure by watching and following our simple guide to wearing two-tone nails.

Flynow is one of Thailand’s best-loved contemporary labels. Established in 1983 by the current fashion editor of Harper’s Bazaar Thailand, the label spread its wings internationally when it made an appearance at London Fashion in 1995, and it has not looked back since. Flynow just arrived in Indonesia in December of 2013 and is available at Galeries Lafayette, Pacific Place. I’m particularly found of the fun, youthful element in party outfits that are offset by modest and mature silhouettes. Turn up the glitz and glam with the Molten Metal Duo Eye Shadow by Sleek Makeup, and set yourself apart from the crowd with the semi-matte lipstick by Inglot in #267.

Here’s another Thai label that landed at Galeries Lafayette in December 2013: Greyhound markets itself as “basic with a twist” and “simple but never boring.” Despite having no formal training in fashion, the people behind the brand were united by shared interests in the arts, architecture, and music; what they started in 1980 is today an empire that consists of a spin-off streetwear line, five flagship stores, and seven cafes/restaurants, and outlets in Paris, Moscow, Tokyo, and more! Now that they’re available in Jakarta, pair up this beautiful monochromatic sampling of their ensembles with the legendary Terracota Khôl in Noir by Guerlain and the showstopping Gloss Volupte in Smoking by YSL.
