Yay or Nay: Tamara Mellon Waist-Length Boots

seo-img-article

If you’re a fan Jimmy Choo shoes, you have Tamara Mellon to thank for it. When working as an accessories editor at Vogue in the early ’90s, Mellon took a particular liking to the work Choo was doing at his London studio, so she discussed the possibility of unleashing his work to a larger global scale. A partnership between the two was cemented in 1996 when Mellon received financial backing from her father, and the rest is history. Today, Jimmy Choo’s personal net worth rings up to USD 50 million, and his name is synonymous with leading names in fine women’s shoes (Manolo Blahnik, Christian Louboutin).

Mellon stepped down as Chief Creative Officer of Jimmy Choo in 2011, but has kept busy with her countless business endeavors. One of her recent projects to come into fruition is the establishment of her own line, which was set up with the idea of “Putting the needs of modern women first. . . [offering] versatile, seasonless fashion”.

Isn’t that leather skirt just divine? I could talk about that skirt alone all day, but I’d like to direct your attention to the look on the right: the first time you see the photo, you might think the model was wearing a pair of thigh-high boots. Upon closer inspection, you realize that whoa, they would have to be a pair of really high thigh-highs. It turns out that she isn’t wearing thigh-highs at all, but rather this special number:

What a rad  amalgamation between leather boots and tights — I hope this means we get to see more of these in different reiterations. What should we call them? Bloots? Bights? Lebootights? This specific model is called the Sweet Revenge (so apropos!), and they retail at a cool USD 2,470 on Net-a-Porter. The heels measure up to 3.4 inches and the waistband is elastic, in case you’re worried about having to suck in your gut every time you wear these.

If you can’t already tell, I love them and would wear them in a heartbeat. I’m a big fan of boots too and am really pleased to see the a surge of love for them here at FDHQ. But what do you think about these particular boots? Would you wear something of the, or would you think twice and put on something a little less orthodox? Hit us up in the comments 🙂
