Facial in a jar. The hottest product in Hollywood. Gives you camera-ready glowing skin.

Those are just some of the praises I’ve heard surrounding the hype that is Glamglow Youthmud Tinglexfoliate Treatment. But you know what I usually do when I hear such hype, especially ones that includes “Hollywood” or “celebrities”? I run the other way! Call me jaded, but I have had my share of beauty hypes that turned out to be such letdowns. In my opinion, I don’t need 20 celebrity endorsements to convince me that a product is worth buying; good products should be able to speak for themselves. Don’t you agree?

Having said that, I am of course willing to make exceptions, especially when a jar of said hype landed on my desk. I mean, come on. What was I supposed to do? I had to try it…it’s part of my job! And in the case of Glamglow Youthmud Tinglexfoliate Treatment, I am willing to not only make an exception, but eat my words too regarding Hollywood celebrity endorsement.

In other words, I am sold!

Glamglow was founded by Glenn & Shannon Dellimore, who wanted to create a product for their actor friends that can work instantly to give camera-ready skin. The couple formulated the mask on their coffee table, and a few sample jars were handed out to their friends. Before long, more and more people began asking for more samples. Glenn and Shannon ended up supplying the products to Hollywood studios, where it was (and still is) used by actors and their makeup artists to prep the skin and make it look radiant and glowing before the camera rolls. But the demand for Glamglow mud mask didn’t stop there. A retailer soon contacted Glenn and Shannon with a business proposal they couldn’t refuse: for Glamglow to be sold alongside world’s famous beauty brands!

The star ingredient in Glamglow Youthmud mask is Teaoxi, which is a proprietary continious time-release technology, delivering fresh-ingredients into the mud from the real pieces of tea leaves contained in the musk. The clay itself comes from Southern France portion of the Mediterranean Sea, and it is said to be able to detoxify and awaken the skin by drawing out impurities without removing natural oils.

The product I tried came in a small 15 gram jar which is labeled in a black and silver design with a big silver star on top of the cap. Despite the size, the jar is solid and well-made and it’s actually very travel-friendly as it slips easily into my skincare bag.

The texture of the mask is quite thick, which is why it is advised that you “stir” it with your finger first to liquefy the product. Once I did that, I found it to be quite easy to spread. I did notice real tea leaves in the mud and I found it curious as to why they didn’t ground it more finely. But anyway, despite some complaints from reviewers on the net, I actually don’t find this annoying at all because you still get a lot of the mud mask inside the jar.

Once I spread the mask on my face, I left it on for about 10 minutes to dry. This is where the famous tingling effect starts to happen. Some people call it a “burning” sensation, but for me, it felt more like a tightening effect that was mild enough to ignore while I got my daily dose of Breaking Bad episodes (Shh! No spoilers please!). The mask dried fairly quickly and once I saw the mud turn pale green, I washed my face. Important step! While cleaning your face, use circular motions to rub the mask on your face, as this helps the magic to work as it exfoliates your skin.

On the first use, I didn’t immediately see any dramatic result. I saw that my face looked clearer and brighter and my pores were slightly smaller, but that was it. But because it was rather fun to use, plus I LOVE the smell, I continued using the mask for the next few weeks at a rate of twice weekly. On the second week, I woke up after using this mask the night before and was quite stunned to see that my face now exuded a very noticeable, healthy radiant glow! The dullness that I experienced was gone and I noticed my pores were also getting tighter and the blackheads around my nose seemed clearer too. I have sensitive skin and I’m happy to report that not only my skin didn’t react negatively to the mask, but the redness on my skin, which has been my biggest problem, was also slightly reduced too.

I have been using Glamglow Youthmud for around 6 weeks now, and the other benefit I enjoy is my skin seems a lot less oily right after using it. I even let my boyfriend try it on, and — despite being skeptical at first — he also admitted that his skin felt softer and brighter, and that this mud effectively removed blackheads from his pores. I had to pry the small jar from his hand and promised him to get a new one just so I can be reunited with this mask 😀
