    <div class="container">Early last night, I was scrolling through my Twitter timeline when <a href="http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-your-money-24362749" target="_blank">this headline from the BBC</a> had me audibly gasp for air:<br><br><a rel="attachment wp-att-65991" href="http://www.fashionesedaily.com/blog/2013/10/03/stop-press-marc-jacobs-leaves-louis-vuitton/twitter-2/"><img class="aligncenter img-responsive wp-image-65991" title="twitter" src="//www.fashionesedaily.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/10/twitter.jpg" alt="" /></a><br><br>I didn't stray far from other news sources on the internet that night, keeping a curious eye out for more information as details of the news surfaced. <strong>Marc Jacobs </strong>leaving <strong>Louis Vuitton? </strong>Say it ain't so!<br><br>Apparently sometime backstage during the very theatrical Louis Vuitton Spring 2014 show at <strong>Paris Fashion Week</strong>, Jacobs announced that this would be his last show for the French luxury giant. I think this sort of came as a shock to me because I didn't really see it coming! The only whisper of such a departure came in the form of his contract with Louis Vuitton <a href="http://www.reuters.com/article/2013/09/25/us-lvmh-louisvuitton-idUSBRE98O0XD20130925" target="_blank">nearly meeting its expiration</a>, but I guess I was in denial because I expected him to remain with the French for a few more years.<br><br>Still, his decision to leave makes plenty of business sense: this is the natural stage of progression he needed to take if he wanted to expand his eponymous label. The Marc Jacobs brand first started as a women's fashion line in 1986, eventually expanding to include men's fashion, bags and accessories, a secondary line (<a href="http://shop.nordstrom.com/c/marc-by-marc-jacobs" target="_blank">Marc by Marc Jacobs</a>), and (most recently) <a href="http://www.fashionesedaily.com/blog/2013/08/21/wednesday-wishlist-marc-jacobs-beauty/" target="_blank">a highly-coveted cosmetics line</a>. It has also been quickly confirmed that <a href="http://www.wwd.com/fashion-news/designer-luxury/wwd-news-alert-jacobs-exits-vuitton-to-focus-on-ipo-7206602?module=hp-topstories" target="_blank">Jacobs plans to go public with the brand</a>.<br><br><a rel="attachment wp-att-65996" href="http://www.fashionesedaily.com/blog/2013/10/03/stop-press-marc-jacobs-leaves-louis-vuitton/marc_jacobs/"><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-65996" title="Marc_Jacobs" src="//www.fashionesedaily.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/10/Marc_Jacobs.jpg" alt="" /></a><br><br>Jacobs has built a fantastic rapport since stepping in to serve as LV's Creative Director in 1997, giving the French brand a dose of playful American retro while retaining a certain theatrical grandeur attributed to brand. This fresh injection of talent gave Louis Vuitton the leg-up it needed during the boom in the luxury sector that accompanied the '90s. Despite the success, the split seems amicable enough: <strong style="font-size: 13px; line-height: 19px;">Bernard Arnault, </strong>Chairman and CEO of <strong style="font-size: 13px; line-height: 19px;"><a href="http://www.lvmh.com/" target="_blank">LVMH</a></strong> (the parent company of Louis Vuitton), never ran out of praises and well-wishes for Jacobs in his new endeavor. And why shouldn't he? The Marc Jacobs brand is conveniently owned by LVMH as well.<br><br>If anything, Louis Vuitton may be the one getting the short end of the stick here: in addition to shopping around for a new Creative Director, LVMH also happens to be in the thick of an ugly conflict involving <a href="http://www.nytimes.com/2013/09/05/business/global/lvmh-chief-will-not-appeal-fine-over-hermes-stake.html" target="_blank">a surreptitious stake takeover of Hermès</a> that took place between 2002 and 2010. They've been slapped with a fine of  €8 million for the shady business deal -- but that's barely a scratch, seeing as their 2013 Q1 revenue clocked in at a cool  €6.9 billion.<br><br>So who will go on to keep the Creative Director seat warm at Louis Vuitton? Plenty of rumors are already swirling to say that wunderkind and former Balenciaga Creative Director<strong> Nicolas Ghesquière</strong> looks to be a strong contender, and he'd be a great fit at the French house too!
