Get the Look: Reclaim the Pantsuit à la Esther Quek

Confession time: I don’t have an Instagram account, but I have half a mind to make one just so I can follow (stalk?) the amazing sartorial adventures of the jet-setting Esther Quek. For the uninitiated, Esther Quek is the Dubai-based Group Fashion Editor of The Rake, Revolution, and La Femme magazines. Her androgynous style caught on quickly among attentive fashion bloggers, and she has since become a favorite among street style photographers who patiently wait for a glimpse of the spitfire Singaporean at fashion week locations all over the world.

Esther has been credited with bringing the pantsuit back into the spotlight, which means she now joins Coco Chanel and Hillary Clinton as torchbearers for the versatile two-piece!

Another thing I love about this boss is how she keeps clothes and accessories in varying enough combinations and rotation without making them look boring. Here she is sporting the same mirrored aviator shades, which happen to be really in right now.

In addition to the flawless fitted pantsuit combos, her hair has been at the center of some rightfully-earned attention as well. For all the laissez-faire feel it gives off, the boyish side buzz-cut coiff is probably a haircut that requires a lot of maintenance and pruning. So if you you’re not ready to book an appointment with your stylist every few weeks to maintain the look, don’t lop off your locks just yet.

Want to get the Quek look? Keep an eye out for a matching pantsuit and pair it with a brogues or leather Derbies from the men’s section of the shoe department. Conversely, you can color block a solid fitted blazer with a contrasting skinny trouser and gain some height with a pair of killer wedges. Whichever look you settle on, don’t leave the house without a bold piece of statement jewelry! Oversized geometric earrings and big face watches are always great options.

Remember that while this androgynous look is not difficult to imitate, you will never pull it off properly without the right attitude! So when you pick up your sassy tailored pantsuit from the dry cleaners, bring out the boss in you!
