All-Time Favorite: Burt’s Bees Lip Balm

I’ve been wearing lip balm on and off ever since I was in junior high school. However, since I found Burt’s Bees lip balm, I started wearing lip balm on a daily basis and it has been inside my bag wherever I go. I first discovered this brand when I flipped through the pages of US Weekly and apparently many celebrities use it. I bought it for the first time in Sephora Singapore and since I couldn’t find Burt’s Bees in Indonesia, I bought it from an online make-up store. The price is a little bit pricey compared to other lip balms, but remember that this product is 100% natural and it works really well on my lips! The best lip balm I have ever tried so far! Previously, I used Burt’s Bees Replenishing Lip Balm with Pomegranate Oil and then switched to Burt’s Bees Tinted Lip Balm – Rose. Let’s take a look at these products.

First of all, all Burt’s Bees products are 100% natural and they have a strict commitment regarding the natural standard. The packaging is also recyclable and their main principle is to give back to the world around us. You can see their full commitment on their website. This is what I like about their products because although they are a little bit pricey, it is for a good cause. In addition, they are very transparent regarding their products since they always write down the ingredients on the packaging and even on the website.

Burt’s Bees Replenishing Lip Balm with Pomegranate Oil

Claims: Bring your lips back to beautiful. This replenishing and hydrating natural lip balm is infused with the antioxidant goodness of pomegranate oil. It replenishes moisture to reveal smooth, healthy lips, while it coats them with a hint of color for an even-toned appearance.

Abundant in antioxidants, this bright red fruit has recently emerged as one of the most beneficial natural ingredients around. That’s why we include this “super” ingredient in our natural personal care products.

Ingredients: helianthus annuus (sunflower) seed oil, cera alba (beeswax, cire d’abeille), cocos nucifera (coconut) oil, ricinus communis (castor) seed oil, lanolin, aroma (flavor)*, punica granatum (pomegranate) seed oil, tocopherol, rosmarinus officinalis (rosemary) leaf extract, glycine soja (soybean) oil, canola oil (huile de colza), carmine, benzyl salicylate, cinnamal, citral, eugenol, geraniol, hydroxycitronellal, limonene, linalool. *natural flavor/arôme naturel

So, from the ingredients we can see that it contains coconut oil and lanolin, which are natural moisturizers for the lips. In addition, it also contains pomegranate extract which is rich in antioxidants to fight free radicals from the environment. The flavor is derived from natural product, which is less toxic compared to the artificial flavor. I used it for about a year and it gave a sheer pink tint and it’s moisturizing  and also lasts long. In addition, this product is not too greasy and sticky compared to any other lip balm that I previously used. The reason why I switched to tinted lip balm is because I need more color for my lips so that my lips will not look pale and dull for the day

Burt’s Bees Tinted Lip Balm – Rose

Claims: Care for your lips with beautiful, sheer color. Our new tinted balms give you a hint of color with a soft, sweet flavor and natural ingredients that moisturize and condition your lips. Available in six flirty shades – Hibiscus, Honeysuckle, Tiger Lily, Pink Blossom, Red Dahlia and Rose.

Shea Butter (butyrospermum parkii) — This natural fat obtained from the fruit of the karite tree is a valuable, nourishing addition to moisturizers for the reduction of wrinkles and to improve the elasticity of the skin and protect it against environmental aging.

Ingredientscocos nucifera (coconut) oil, olus (vegetable oil, huile vegetale), cera alba (beeswax, cire d’abeille), olea europaea (olive) fruit oil, candelilla cera (euphorbia cerifera wax, cire de candelilla), helianthus annuus (sunflower) seed oil, aroma (flavor)*, lanolinbutyrospermum parkii (shea) butter, ricinus communis (castor) seed oil, cananga odorata flower wax, jasminum officinale (jasmine) flower wax, ammonium glycyrrhizinate, tocopherol, rosmarinus officinalis (rosemary) leaf extract, glycine soja (soybean) oil, canola oil (huile de colza). May contain: alumina, CI 77891 (titanium dioxide), CI 75470 (carmine), CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499 (iron oxides). *natural flavor

Ingredient-wise, we can see that it has coconut oil, lanolin, and shea butter, which are the natural moisturizing agents as mentioned by Dr. Oz (see my previous post about ‘Lip Balm Addiction’). In addition, it also contains olive oil, which is widely popular for its moisturizing and anti-oxidant benefits for hair and skin. Similar to the regular lip balm, this product is not too greasy and sticky compared to any other lip balm that I previously used. The difference is that this product gives more vibrant color compared to the regular Burt’s Bees lip balm. Because of that, this product contains dyes as seen on the list of ingredients. However, most of the dyes are natural dyes, for example CI 75470 or carmine is a naturally-derived colorant, which originates from scale insects. As a result, this product is considerably safe, moisturizing,  lasts long, and gives a vibrant color to the lips.

What about you? What is your favorite lip balm? :)
