Lipstick Monday: Fiery Red with YSL Glossy Stain #9
It’s been a year since I wrote about YSL Rouge Pur Couture Vernis À Lèvres a.k.a the Glossy Stains and I’m still in love with these. Liquid lipsticks are still very much in trend. It’s effortless, lightweight and packed with pigment with long hours of wear. Today I’m going to show you one of my favorite shades (and reportedly often to be out of stock) from my collection, #9 Rouge Laqué.
The packaging is simple and it has an uncanny resemblance to a nail polish bottle. The cap is gold with YSL emblem and the bottom is black with a little ‘window’ to show you the color of the product. Very convenient! It’s considerably lightweight and easy to carry around in the purse.
The next best thing about this is the sponge applicator. It’s thin yet quite fluffy. It’s flexible. The pointed tip ensures precise application. The applicator is perfect to carry and deliver the product onto the lips.
Rouge Laqué is a striking, hot bright red with orange undertone. It is incredibly glossy and rich in pigment. It goes opaque in 2 coats. This particular shade has the perfect consistency, not too runny nor thick. Let me tell you, I always get (even more) compliments when I wear this! It’s such an in-your-face red shade! Which is why I don’t wear it that often, only to special occasions. But hey, if you got the confidence, go ahead! When it wears off, it leaves an red-orange stain.
Now, some people complaint that this lipstick has a sticky feel. It’s not, if you wear it correctly.
TIPS: Wait for approximately 30 secs before applying another coat and do not press your lips together during that time.
The idea is similar to nail polish. When you apply the first coat, you have to wait for it to dry before applying another. That way you can avoid gloppy, sticky mess and achieve an even finish, in this case glossy finish. The initial application is rather tacky. It’s going to be tempting to press your lips together, hold that urge! Once it dries, you can see that the surface’s smooth and won’t stick when you press your lips together. Voilà, you got yourself a nice pair of juicy, full glossy lips!
In the above photo, I wore 3 coats to show you the full potential. This was photographed indoor; you can tell that the red still pops out like no one’s business. I LOVE it!
Since its launching last year, YSL Glossy Stain has come out with a few new shades. I’m eager to check them out. I haven’t checked YSL counter a long time to see whether they got these newer shades (I’ve been side tracked with my other wish lists). Anyway, I hope I can find another shade or two to add to my collection. Hopefully something along the line of fuchsia
