Runway Dreams narrates the story of three women with different characters who work in fashion industry in Indonesia, and took a plot of what I think visibly the most appealing timeline in the fashion industry – the arrangement of a single fashion show. The three main characters are: Mika, a passionate junior choreographer and an aspired choreographer of a prestigious show; Jelita, a former model and a new mom striving to lose her weight, but her attraction and personality is imminent; and Naira, a talented assistant to a famous Indonesian designer, with her innocence and positive attitude she has to face everyday’s ordeal of her irritable boss. Their three characters: passion, attraction and innocence, represent the 3 scent of Downy fabric care.
There are some interesting points to share, which make this movie very entertaining to watch. First, of course, is the talented Nia Dinata as the director, together with Melissa Karim and Lucky Kuswandi as script writers. Nia said that this movie comes from the people who value fashion, including herself, and comprehend the behind those glamour images of the fashion world, which include a prominent hard work from the people involved. And a real fashion designer, Tri Handoko as Desmond, the famous designer who is holding the show in this movie, whose character is truly the opposite to his personality.
And it is very amusing to see Fitri Tropica, the ever hilarious entertainer, known for her ‘lebay‘ character, fill the cast for an innocence girl, Naira! She plays a calm, composed, while keeping the positive attitude while being shouted at, and unfairly treated by her boss. And yet, we were still able to capture her ‘true self’ at the press conference and made us burst into laughter.
Oh, and I almost forgot, Runway Dreams is an interactive web movie, so you’re free to watch it on Youtube. It is divided into 3 sequences, 15 minutes each and tell the story in each character’s point of view.
