Just take a look at the Bedouin Ballerina lookbook, new collection for Spring/Summer 2013 by Hafsa Lodi, a Dubai designer who has just finished her journalism study in Toronto. Lodi says she wanted to give Muslim women more options by creating pieces that both balance modesty with style and incorporate international trends and colors. “Typical Middle Eastern [garb] is all black head-to-toe,” Lodi says. “But I’m trying to give [these women] more use to that image with colour and embellishments.” Lodi’s inspiration is eye-catching prints. Whenever she sees a fabric she likes, she pictures its potential to be made into something different.
