Your Take on Fewer Logo & More Discreet Luxury

Working with Fashionese Daily means that I get to meet both the brands and also bags re-seller people. I get the inside scoop about the business of selling bags. Oh believe me, they’re HUGE!

When I asked them questions about which bags are sold the most, most of them will answer that those with in your face logo monogram will be a big hit! Think about all those Louis Vuitton with LV monogram, entwined Gs embossed on your leather than people will know from miles that it’s Gucci, or the in your face Coach Cs. Yes, those are what I’m talking about. They sell very well in Indonesia and they still are.

But aren’t you all tired with it already? Luxury goods, or in this case luxury bags, is not about screaming to the world that you’re wearing one. It’s about – or may also about – getting a well-designed bag with top of the notch craftsmanship made with the utmost luxurious materials.

It’s rather intentional because the brand wants to shift their strategy to reduce their monogrammed products and focus more on luxurious materials. Revenue-wise, of course, it’s good that they stick on to their well-known line. As Bernard Arnault, chairman and chief executie of LVMH said, “Of course it would be easier for Louis Vuitton to boost its revenue; all it would take would be to launch ten new products with the monogram product, but down the road it’s not a good strategy.” (more…)
