Battle of the Week: Dior vs. Stila Blush

Today, I’m going to make a comparison review between Dior Rosy Glow Healthy Glow Awakening Blush (reviewed here) and Stila Custom Color Blush #Pink.

These two blushes offer a similar idea: a self-adjusting blush that will react to the skin’s natural chemistry and create a custom shade of  he owner’s that is both flattering and universal.

Let’s get the basics done first. Stila’s packaging is much more modest than Dior’s. Stila’s compact is of glossy black plastic with a mirror. Dior is encased in a compact of silver top and clear acrylic, with a mirror and brush. Dior has 7.5 gr of product while Stila has 5 gr.

I got the Stila first, a while ago at a very good price. I was intrigued by (supposedly) self-adjusting formula. Wow, I’m not kidding, this is the boldest blush shade I ever have. It’s a neon blue-tone bright pink, much more in-your-face than Dior’s. On my cheeks, it shows up warmer, not as rosy as Dior’s, but has a stronger pink tone.

I think the biggest difference aside from the color is the texture. Dior Rosy Glow is so much more finely milled. It is so soft and smooth to the touch. I’m not saying that Stila isn’t good. I’m not sure if you can see it by the finger swatches, but Stila is more chalky/powdery compared to Dior.
As far as blending goes, I have an easier time with Dior. Although both are pigmented, I have no trouble blending Dior to the skin. With Stila, I have to work it more, therefore I use different brushes for them:  Sigma F10 for Dior and Real Techniques Blush Brush for Stila.

L-R: Stila, Dior

Longevity wise, Dior stays on longer than Stila. At the end of the day, Dior Rosy Glow retains that natural rosy pink shade. Stila, on the the other hand, loses its brightness and looks subdued.

Speaking of price point, Dior Rosy Glow (USD 44) is more than twice the price of Stila (USD 20). Although higher price doesn’t always mean higher quality, in this case, it is. Dior Rosy Glow offers a more superior quality, hands down.

That being said, had I not bought Dior. Would I be happy with Stila? Yes, of course! Stila has been my go-to blush whenever I’m in a hurry. The bright shade would lit up my complexion whenever I need it. Of course, I have to be careful with the application, but that’s the issue with every pigmented blushes, no? Plus the packaging is a lot lighter and saves more space when I travel.

So, despite all the differences, I’m still happy I bought Stila and have considered to buy the Coral one. I think it’s a fun blush to have around.

Why did I buy Dior? Since I’ve tried Stila first, I got interested with Dior’s take on it. So, I purchased it when Sephora had its 20% off Black Friday Sale last year. Would I buy Dior at full price (not knowing the quality)? Yes, if I see and swatch it in person. There’s no Dior in Indonesia anymore, and since I don’t go to SG/KL often, there’s no way I could’ve tried this out. So basically, my answer is most likely not. :p

So there you go, even if I hadn’t seen (bought and tried) Dior, I like Stila nevertheless. But since I do have Dior now, I’m twice as ecstatic!
