Blogger du Jour: Sarah Tauhid

I practically stumbled upon this blog, sarasaraa.tumblr.com, from fellow forum members in hijab blog thread. Sarah is a graphic designer from Jakarta, and currently resides in Brisbane.  She wears hijab since 1999, and has been blogging since 2010.

The first thing that came to mind, her style is very original! Her outfit choice really expresses her character and each item is a statement. All of those dresses, skirts,  reveal her adoration for drapes and layers. As you can see, layer, volume and drapes are applied to make a Muslim outfit attractive, but Sarah just dons them in a kind of breakthrough fashion.

This is how she describes her passion for fashion. Sarah wanted to wear something modest, more like gamis (abaya), but she found that gamis is not quite comfy to wear. After doing some research, she designed and created dresses that are ideal for her: 森ガール (mori-girl) inspired. Since she couldn’t get it off the market, she started to create those dresses from scratch. Most of the dresses that she wears in this tumblr were made by her.

Isn’t it obvious that this girl is a huge fan of drape and layering? Grasp the idea, leave that boring-plain cotton cloth or jersey fabric behind, and browse for the perfect cotton crunch, linen or silk fabric. Well of course those are far from simple outfit (don’t you think?), but a certain style is definitely made for somebody, no?
