Yay or Nay: The Sweatpants Trend!

Sporty look is officially in this year! I’m sure that’s not exactly news for you, fashion savvy readers. Be it for the good cause of having a better lifestyle (more sporty items means more time and greater willingness to exercise), or simply to look active and more energetic with activewear (always opt for the first, ladies!).

As odd as it might sound, wearing sweatpants as an everyday pants is becoming trendy!

Sweatpants, also known as tracksuit bottoms, are casual variety of soft trousers intended for comfort or athletic purposes, although they are now worn in many different situations. Tracksuit bottoms are usually made from cotton or polyester, and the chief characteristic distinguishing them from other athletic pants is the elastic band located around the waist.

They are usually quite baggy and loose, in order to ensure flexibility and comfort, and sometimes the cut is narrow at calf or ankle. With the slouchy characteristic and material used, it’s nearly impossible to picture this item worn with semi-formal tops.

But don’t get discouraged too soon. With some proper alteration, sweatpants can be a go to pants for smart-casual occasions. Sweatpants gained back their popularity through designers resort collection 2013, where Lanvin and Givenchy are also showcasing the most expensive sweatpants! By looking at images below, maybe you can imagine yourself wearing a pair while strolling the malls, having a playdate at a bookstore, or attending casual invitations.
