What I really liked about attending Mercedes-Benz Miami Fashion Week Swim – apart from the obvious runway shows and backstage hustle and bustle – was to spend time around the pool side of The Raleigh hotel, where the fashion week took place. It was a really nice set up. The pool area was gorgeous, the weather was almost always perfect – not too hot as we usually start coming at around 6 PM – and there were interesting things going on around the tent. There’s an open bar where champagne, wine and cocktails kept on flowing from, a BBQ stand which gave this irresistible smell of grilled meat and sausages everytime I passed by and of course, the sponsor cabanas. These were where sponsors of Mercedes-Benz Miami Fashion Week Swim held various activities for the guests during the fashion week. I noticed that one of the busiest cabanas were Make Up For Ever.

Make Up For Ever Cabana at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim is like a mini makeup school. Not only attendees can get a quick touch up to their makeup, they can also learn a series of quick, interactive make up lessons which included expert application techniques and how to achieve Miami-inspired looks so they can become their own pros. The Cabana was open before, during and after each evening’s events and like I said, every time I passed by, it was always full of women eager to learn new makeup tips and tricks. Also, so they wouldn’t forget the lessons, each attendee received a take home Flash Card with step-by-step instructions so it would be easier for them to re-create the looks at home.

The must-try lessons included:

  • Lincoln Road Lift: Learn to fake it with the perfect “quick eye lift” effect that can be worn day or night.
  • Pool Side Pop: Don’t be color shy, learn how to add a completely smudge-proof pretty pop of color to your look for summer.
  • Customized Cat-eyes: THE eye liner look of the moment, learn an easy, long-lasting technique that works on any eye shape.
  • Luxe Lips: Smudge-proof, budge-proof statement lips that last from dusk to dawn.

I got my mini makeup lesson on the first day of the fashion week. As I tend to focus my makeup on my lips (because it’s the easiest for me), this time I chose Pool Side Pop look to give my eyes a pop of summer colors. You can achieve the same look by following these steps:

  • Apply Aqua Cream #23 all over the lid and blend with a flat eyeshadow brush
  • Put Aqua Shadow in dark brown or grey shades (such as #2E or #4E) on the outer corners and blend towards the middle of your lids using circular motion. The makeup artist prefers to use a pointy brush that is not too fluffy, such as Eye Shadow brush #15S, because she said it’s easier to blend cream products with it
  • Put the nude shimmer Aqua Shadow on the brow bones and inner corners of the eyes, to highlight and “open” your eyes, such as Aqua Shadow in #24E
  • Create a soft, smudged line on your eyes with Aqua Eyes in #24L and finish off with Aqua Smoky Lash in #3 (Deep Brown)
  • On my face, the makeup artist used HD Foundation and apply HD Microfinish Blush in #7, a peachy beige shade which suits the warm colors on my eyes perfectly
  • On my lips – and this is the product I am most looking forward to having – is the soon-to-be-launched Aqua Rouge in #4, a budge-proof, longwearing lip product. It comes in a double-ended tube with one lip color on one end and a clear gloss on the other. Unlike most longwearing lip products I’ve tried, Aqua Rouge felt comfortable on my lips as there was no “tight” feeling when applied. It really did last a long time too, after drinking and eating all night, I found the color still looking fresh at the end of the night. I can’t wait for this product to arrive to Indonesia!

So this is the finished look. Isn’t it pretty? This look really suited the atmosphere of Mercedes-Benz Miami Fashion Week Swim – vibrant and fun!
