IFW 2012: Young Muslim Designers present EARTHVOLUTION

seo-img-article

On the first day of Indonesia Fashion Week 2012, several young muslim designers collaborated in a show. Hijabers Community activists, Ria Miranda and Jenahara, showed their first masterpiece on Indonesia Fashion Week runway, along with Faradina and Khanaan Shamlan.

Themed Earthvolution, the collection tells a story of earth transformation; from growing, blossom, mature to destruction phase.

Ria Miranda delivered her signature style which is sweet and ultra-romantic in soft pastel colors into some wonderful flowy maxi skirts, cropped jackets, and tops. Beautifully created from various materials – mostly chiffon, taffeta, satin silk and lace-cotton silk – we found the collection gives quite many alternatives compared to her previous mass products.

Ria Miranda used instant turban as head cover or headpiece for the models. This time, she collaborated with MissMarina as the turban designer. Witnessing how Hijabers Community’s style massively geared as a trendsetter of muslim fashion in Indonesia, this could be it!

On the contrary, Jenahara still designed in her monochromatic, classy rock style. Black and white will never fade away from her design, it’s getting even stronger.

Her limited edition line presented in runway was ‘JENAHARA NASUTION’. Besides the collection presented on runway, she also runs a mass production line, ‘Jenahara’ and ‘Jenahara by Ida Royani’ (collaborating with her mother).

Through her collection, Jenahara vividly reflected images of strong, independent muslim woman and dare to compete in this modern era. Silk, satin silk, leather and sequin were created into various pieces like skinny pants and long skirts. Jenahara also designed her own printed fabric which motif was drawn from Jenahara logo. That print can be found in veil and shawl.
