Whitney, The Unmatched Diva and Her Iconic Looks

seo-img-article

A week has passed, but we still couldn’t fathom the tragic loss of our one and only Whitney Houston.

The legendary diva that we all grew up with was found dead under the bath water in luxury suite number 434 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel on February 11, 2012.

Bottles of prescription pills were said to be found scattered around her room, some were believed as sedatives, causing her to fall asleep in the bathtub once they had been mixed with alcohol.

Paramedics fought to revive the singer but she was pronounced dead at 3.55 pm, hours before she had been due to perform at a pre-Grammy’s party at the same hotel.

Everyone from celebrities to fans worldwide expressed their sadness via various social medias. They praised her unmatched talent and passed on their wishes to her bereaved family, while others expressed their shock at how the award-winning singer passed away at the age of just 48.

At her peak, Whitney was the golden girl of the music industry. From the middle 1980s to the late 1990s, she was one of the world’s best-selling artists. She then also gained success in acting, with box-offices like The Bodyguard and Waiting to Exhale.

But by the end of her career, Whitney’s abusive relationship with Bobby Brown and her drug-addiction took their tolls. Her album sales plummeted and the hits stopped coming, and she confessed to abusing cocaine, marijuana and pills, and her once-pristine voice became hoarse, unable to hit the high notes as she had during her prime.

Nevertheless, we will always cherish the memory of Whitney Houston and her soulful hits, which we are sure have become the soundtrack of many events of our lives. And in a true Fashionese Daily style, we are going to revisit some of Whitney’s memorable fashion choices throughout her career.

Here are 8 of our favorites:

In 1986, Whitney arrived at the 14th annual American Music Awards in a true 80s ensemble: a black column dress, embellished with a giant teal bow and giant rhinestone brooch on the shoulder

Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey, who did a duet for the award-winning song When You Believe, had a memorable moment at the 1998 MTV Video Music Awards when they pretend to have a catfight because of their matching chocolate brown Vera Wang dresses. “Nice dress,” Mariah said. “You look pretty good, too,” Whitney replied.

At the VH1 Divas Duets concert in 2003

At the 2004 Women’s World Award event

Looking more radiant than she had been in the years before, Whitney accompanied her longtime mentor Clive Davis to the annual charity gala Carousel of Hope ball in 2006, wearing an asymmetrical black Armani gown with solid diamond accessories

In 2009, Whitney returned to the Grammy ‘sstage wearing a regal blue and beige ombré Zuhair Murad gown

In a gorgeous asymmetrical white dress at the American Music Awards in 2009

And just last year, Whitney performed stunningly at Clive Davis’ annual pre-Grammy’s gala wearing a shimmering  sequin gown

We will, indeed, always love you. Rest in peace, Whitney Houston.
