The 26th Sea Games almost reached its end. It has created a hype among Indonesian people, and I believe in other ASEAN countries as well. Besides other news informing how many medals each country gets, we also have such an interesting yet fashionable news for you. Do you know that Indonesia’s synchronized swimming team uniforms were designed by Twentyforteen? Here’ are the picture of the team wearing Twentyforteen swim wears.

When I heard the news, I got curious how the label finally provided swimwears for our national team. Then I asked Agnita, the lady behind Twentyforteen and she kindly explained it all to me.

“It was the coach [of Indonesia’s synchronized swimming team] who asked me through email whether I was capable to create their uniforms for Sea Games, then we met and talked about it. At first, I was a bit surprised and I didn’t expect too much because honestly, the design and material they asked was quite complicated and I was afraid I couldn’t make it. Plus, I was only given 3 weeks to create 3 designs for 32 uniforms,” said Agnita.

“So I discussed the matter with my team including my elder sister who’s better at drawing the sketch compared to me, haha. We brainstormed and sent the sketches several times until they finally approved.”

“Actually the designs referred to the theme songs they use for the competition. For Technical Team Routine, they used Grease soundtrack titled ‘Lightning’ so they wanted me to include image of lightning in the uniform. For Free Routine, they played a song that kinda sounds traditional so we were inspired to apply mega mendung batik motif with 4 colors gradation. While in Combination Routine, they wanted to look sexy and glamorous so we took our inspiration from Moulin Rouge.”

Well done, Agnita! And we sure hope there will many more collaborations between sport and fashion such as this one in Indonesia!
