Think that wearing only one bracelet at a time is boring? I guess we all think the same thing, because stacking bracelets is all in the rage now as evidently seen on the street style during New York Fashion Week. It’s not only modern and stylish, but if you do it right, it’ll also give your look a major dramatic impact.

Here are some tips for stacking ‘em arm candies:

  • Your arm will become the focal point, so stacked bracelets are better worn with a simple, clean outfit.
  • If you’re not used to bracelets and bangles (especially with the jangling sound), start out with three or four. As you get comfortable wearing them, add more.
  • Choose a chunky cuff or thick bangle as the focal point for the layers of bracelets. It can add color or texture to your wrist while anchoring the rest of your bracelets, so they won’t slip off.
  • For the rest of your bracelets, choose a bunch of different sizes and widths. Variety is key! So if you have already picked your focal bracelet, you might want to choose one or two medium-sized bracelets and four or five thinner ones.
  • It’s all about trial and error to find the best look for you. Try a combination out and see how it looks. You want to stack them different bracelets randomly? Or maybe you want to make a graduated look by starting with the smallest bracelets and putting on the largest ones last? Up to you!
  • You can use colors in the same family (e.g. blues and greens, or browns and oranges), or wear a bunch of contrasting colored bracelets (yellow gold + red + black).
  • Don’t be afraid to mix high-end with low-end.  Mix an 18k gold Cartier bangle with a red heart silly band? Yes, it can work!
  • Finally, there’s really no limit to how many you can wear at once. As long as your hands feel comfortable and—most importantly—non-distracting. If you have a job that involves a lot of typing, and your bracelets are preventing you to type efficiently, it’s not going to work!

Fishman’s tricks or tips for layering bracelets:I like to divide my bracelets and bangles up by gene! Today, I’ve got metals and edgier pieces on my left hand, and my colorful ‘I’m stil a five-year-old-at-heart’ bracelets on my right. Also, if you favor armfuls of chunky bangles but are at your computer keyboard all day, do your coworkers a favor and remove them before any heavy typing. Otherwise, things could get loud.
