Taylor Swift is in the Mood for Aqua

seo-img-article

When I saw Taylor Swift at the 2011 Teen Choice Awards sporting turquoise eyes, it took me back to an article Affi wrote years ago about aqua eyeshadow. I used to love wearing eyeshadow in aqua shade, one of my favourite products is MAC Eyeshadow in Aquadisiac because even though it has a lustre finish with a bit of glitter in it but it gives a really nice transparent aqua hue to the eyes. I used to pair them with MAC Eyeshadow in Nylon to liven up my eyes a bit.

But enough about my long lost love for Aquadisiac. Now, tell me what do you think about Taylor Swift’s look below? Her look definitely screams ‘summer ‘ because of the combination of colour that instantly reminds me of the colour of sea water. I love the combination between the eyes, lips and cheeks. Orange and aqua really go well together. The thing about this look is that if she used pale coral for the lips, it wouldn’t work for medium to deep skin tone like me. Since she picked a lipstick that leans more toward orange, it might just work for everyone.

So here’s how to achieve Taylor Swift’s look above:

  1. Use sheer coverage foundation such as MAC or Make Up For Ever Face & Body Foundation just to even out your complexion. You don’t want your complexion look too made up.
  2. Apply MAC Eyeshadow in Aquadisiac thinly to your eye lids up to the crease, use a fluffier brush such as blending brush to achieve a more transparent look.
  3. Afterward, put Bobbi Brown Bone Eyeshadow all over your eye lids and don’t forget to blend the two eyeshadows together so it doesn’t look too harsh.
  4. Apply a little bit of highlighter colour on the inner corner of your eyes and below the brow bone. You can use your highlighter such as Bobby Brown Shimmerbrick, pick the lighter shade to apply.
  5. Rim your eyes with kohl pencil such as Lancome Le Crayon Kohl that feels so soft, so I’m not afraid that it will hurt my eyes.
  6. Coat the lashes with volumizing mascara such as Max Factor False Lash Effect Mascara that will be able to thicken your lashes but at the same time don’t weigh it down. Apply only one coat or else it will look too clumpy. Apply the mascara in a zig zag motion from root to end of the lash.
  7. For the blush, choose your favourite coral blush. For a more natural I prefer to use cream blush such as Tarte Cheek Stain in Tipsy or Stila Convertible Colour in Gerbera. Put the cream blush first by lightly tapping it to your apple of the cheeks and put powder only after it. Whereas if you choose to put on powder blush, put your powder first and my recommendation for coral blush fall to NARS Gina or Gilda.
  8. For the lips, my current favourite lipstick is Make Up For Ever Rouge Artist Natural N43 which looks transparent, very moist and the colour pay off is really good. This particular colour is the only orange that I can work with because it’s a true orange. To make it look more subtle apply it by dabbing the lipstick using your fingers to your lips.

If you’ve tried aqua look yourself, what’s your favourite aqua eyeshadow?
