Yes technically we don’t have Summer but judging from the amount of sun we’ve been having lately, and the absence of stormy rain, I guess we can somehow consider ourselves to be in Summer.

It’s hard not to feel uplifted in the morning, especially when you look up, all you can see is gorgeous blue sky dotted with fluffy white clouds. It’s the kind of weather that makes you want to wear light cotton dresses, pull out your brand new sunnies and of course, wear summery fragrance!

Every year, Burberry releases a couple of limited edition Summer fragrances both for men and women, that they simply call Burberry Summer. Last month, the new Burberry Summer hit the counter and the girls and I got a chance to try it.

The bottles and packaging of this fragrance have a pastel colour palette with white degradé Burberry check. The soft colour palette reflects the romantic Burberry Spring/Summer 2010 ready-to-wear collections, which was when Burberry Summer was launched in other parts of the world.

As you can see from the bottle, with its delicate touch of Burberry signature check, the scent is bright but quite feminine and laid back at the same time. Upon spraying, I could smell the sparkling notes of blackcurrants, pomegranate, mandarin and white peach. The citrusy freshness settles into a softer blend of floral notes after a few minutes, which gives this fragrance its feminine aura. The middle notes as listed in the press package is freesia, honeysuckle, lily of the valley and white rose.

The scent, created by Lucas Sieuzac, is quite light and not at all overpowering, so when I was out and about wearing it, I didn’t feel like I was wearing a perfume. But there was this soft, slightly sweet, scent that lingers around me. When I sniffed my wrist an hour after that, I could smell the drydown, which was an accolade of soft woody notes, such as cedarwood, sandalwood and musks.

I asked Deszell to try Burberry Summer too and here is her verdict:

I always opt for fragrances that is more subtle and have gourmand note such as chocolate or vanilla. But when I got my hands on this perfume, I like the mood that the scent carries. Although it felt too upbeat for me at first, but with time, I grew to love it because this is what summer scent is supposed to be like. It gives the fresh and fun mood to whomever wear it. I bet you can beat the Monday blues when you wear this perfume, because all you want to do is smile to whatever challenge is ahead of you. I especially like the base note, when the soft woody notes finally kick in. It’s like the afternoon breeze that comes to softly caress you to end your day.

If you’re interested in purchasing a matching scent for your man, Burberry Summer for Men is also available in major department stores. The notes for this version are Citrus aqueous woody fragrance Yuzu leaves and mandarin as top notes. Aromatic accord of mint, juniper berries and thyme progresses to warmer notes of floated wood and gorse flowers in the heart, while the base notes are cedarwood and sandalwood, with musks and amber.

Burberry Summer for Women is available in 100 ml and 50 ml bottle, while For Men is available in 100 ml bottle only. They’re limited edition, so you might want to hurry if you’ve got your eyes on either of them. The retail price is Rp 670,000 f0r 50ml and Rp 850,000 for 100ml.
