What’s your favorite way to relax after a hard day’s work, girls? Me, I make sure my husband and daughter are asleep, then I turn on the TV, pop a disc into the DVD player and watch whatever movies or TV series I’m currently hooked on at the moment while completing my evening skincare ritual. It sounds simple but I find this ritual to be very relaxing. I get a chance to “empty” my mind from all the problems that’s causing me some stress (work, traffic or family) and make sure my skin gets all the pampering it needs!

Usually I would begin with putting on some cleansing milk or lotion and massage my face lightly. Then I would wash my face with some cleansing cream, followed by serum and night cream. About twice a week, after washing my face and before putting on serum, I would use a mask. Now let me tell you about my favorite mask.

It’s from Kiehl’s and it’s called Rare Earth Deep Pore Cleansing Masque. The whole Rare Earth series is targeted for oily skin type, who tend to have large pores. The main ingredient of Kiehl’s Rare Earth products is Amazonian White Clay which they claim can help to purify and detoxify skin as well as minimizing pores.

The mask has a clay-like texture and I only need to apply very little product to cover all my face. It also dries up in a zip, less than 10 minutes, and then all I have to do is wash the product off with warm water. My skin feels clean and fresh immediately after I use this mask. It also feels slightly “tight” but not taut, it just feels like my pores tighten up, even though when I look in the mirror, there’s no change in the size. The mask also contains some aloe vera and oatmeal which can help soothe, hydrate and protect sensitive skin. I can confidently say that this mask really does deliver that claim. A few weeks ago, due to some exfoliation experiment gone bad, my skin was peeling off, turned red and it felt itchy and it stings whenever I put on any skincare product, even if it was just a regular moisturizer. Kiehl’s Rare Earth mask is the only product that doesn’t make my skin red or itchy. It really did soothe and make my skin feel more comfortable. It also has a slight oatmeal scent which I find really pleasant and calming.

I’ve also been using the other products from this line. Rare Earth Deep Pore Daily Cleanser is a foaming wash that contains the particles from Amazonian White Clay so it does have tiny granules. But it’s not as rough as your regular face scrub so it’s mild enough to be used daily. Rare Earth Pore Minimizing Lotion is a great everyday moisturizer which I use during the day. The texture is slightly thicker than other Kiehl’s moisturizers that I’ve tried, but it sinks into the skin fast. While I’m not sure it minimizes my big pores dramatically, I do feel that my skin is a lot less oily and stays matte longer during the day.

Another product from this line that I use, though not regularly, is Rare Earth Pore Refining Tonic. This dual-phase pore minimizing toner is formulated with Amazonian White Clay to help remove excess dirt and toxins from the skin while helping to control surface oil and refine the look of pores throughout the day. My skin feels refreshed after using this toner but since it contains alcohol, and my skin is sensitive to it, I use it about 2-3 times a week instead of everyday.

After trying almost the whole range of Kiehl’s Yerba Mate line, and loved it so much, I thought that was my favorite line from the brand. But now that I’ve used Rare Earth, I can’t be so sure anymore 😀 It seems that my skin agrees with Kiehl’s products and I’m glad I now have 2 lines of products that I can count on!
