The Art of Creating Tod's D Bag

seo-img-article

It’s not everyday that you get the chance to meet a bag maker from renowned fashion brand such as Tod’s. As part of Plaza Indonesia’s 21st Anniversary, Tod’s bring in their Italian Artisan to demonstrate the making of one of their iconic products, which is the D Bags.

The Art of Leather exhibition that runs from Friday, 18 March until Sunday, 20 March showcased different variations of D Bags and also the Italian artisan will be working his magic on creating the iconic bag on the spot! The bag that debuted back in 1997 has been a favourite among celebrities, including Katie Holmes, Diane Kruger, Freida Pinto, Jessica Alba, Jullianne Moore and Demi Moore to name a few. Even the royal family member such as Princess Caroline de Monaco and future Britain Princess Kate Middleton are fans of this bag.

This bag is undeniably a staple because, not only that the look is so versatile, but it is made with impeccable craftsmanship as I witnessed during the exhibition and the detailing is done perfectly. Each bag is made through the hand of skilled craftsmen whose skill you can’t deny.

It is truly amazing to witness how this artisan work his magic to create what we’ve known as the D Bag. According to the Tod’s team, the way the artisan works at the exhibition is just exactly how he always works at the Tod’s headquarter to create the bag every single day.

And luckily, I got the chance to take a picture with the artisan himself. He was very friendly and humble and I got the chance to talk to him about the iconic bag with the help of a translator.
