Highlighting Trashion Design Contest At The Art Market

Last Sunday on sacred date Oct. 10, 2010 (10/10/10), the long-awaited Pasar Seni ITB successfully attracted thousands of people and created miles of traffic jam around the area. But it isn’t the sea of people that we’re going to talk about. Trashion Design Contest by PT Unilever was the one and only fashion  show and contest in Pasar Seni ITB, among other art displays, music performances  and lines of various stalls.

What is Trashion Design Contest? Trashion itself is an abbreviation of the words Trash and Fashion. The competition invited young designers from college or design schools to design product using trash as the main material. The trash was actually compiled from used plastic packing of Unilever products. Trashion Design Contest was part of Unilever Green and Clean Program which aimed to help conserving the environment.

The judges panel consisted of well-known Indonesian designer Ichwan Toha, young entrepreneur Yoris Sebastian, a representative from UKM Trashion (small and medium enterprises) and a representative from PT Unilever. Creativity, purpose and selling value were the essential points to decide the winner.

Trashion Design Contest chose 10 finalists from about 90 contestants. Here are the models showing off some of the creations:

And the first champion was Dimas Tri Anggodo from STIKOM Interstudi with his guitar-bag design.Being asked about his inspiration in designing the guitar bag, Dimas said that he just loved music and playing guitar, that’s why he wanted to create something useful for him. Then the first runner-up prize went to Sandy Romantic (Indraprasta PGRI University) for designing a single chair covered with used Bango packages. While the most favorite creation was a tent by Regina Devisiswani from Mercu Buana University, Yogyakarta.
