An Italian Dream, A Collaboration of Tod’s and Teatro alla Scalla
If you love opera or ballet, you’re probably familiar with Teatro alla Scala. It is one of the most famous venues for the arts in the world and the spiritual home of opera and ballet in Italy. Tod’s and Teatro alla Scala are two passionately Italian institutions committed to sustaining the skills and quality that lie at the heart of “Made in Italy” and they have partnered to celebrate the importance of preserving the heritage of Italian craftsmanship. Tod’s premiered on September 23rd, 2010, during Milan Fashion Week, a conceptual art video directed by German director/artist Matthias Zentner, starring Ballet dancers from Teatro alla Scala who interpret through dance the craftsmanship that takes place in the creation of Tod’s shoe. The film is entitled “An Italian Dream”.
Diego Della Valle, President of the Tod’s Group says, “An Italian Dream marks the beginning of what I hope will be a long relationship. Tod’s and Teatro alla Scalla are both passionately Italian and committed to keeping alive skills an traditions that lie at the heart of our culture, and that, make the notion of “Made in Italy” so unique. This film illustrates how artistry, attention to detail, commitment and creativity all combine to create something very special.”
The work that is done behind the scenes at the theatre’s Ansaldo factory in the centre of Milan is almost entirely handmade. Every set and every costume is touched by hand in the same way that every product made in the Tod’s factories in Le Marche has been for the last three generations.
