Forum Member In The Spotlight: Irlita, Paving the Road to Healthy Lifestyle

Lita has been a forum member since the very beginning. She has not only been a beauty addict but also known as a bag addict. For those who know Lita and had met her in person from numerous FD gatherings, we’re sure you’re as curious as we are to the change in her figure.

Lita, before joining the gym 🙂

Tell us about yourself and especially your addiction toward lipstick and blushes?

Oh noo !! LOL !! Ever since my university years, when most of my friends were men, I put on lipstick everyday, from nude colors, to terracota, to bold maroon. My paycheck as assistant went to lipsticks. When I was in the mood for bold colors, my friends would ask, “Did you just have babies for breakfast ?” Or when I tried the new lipgloss, they would ask, “Did you just have ‘gorengan’ ?”. Nope, they didn’t cure my addiction to lip products :)).

I think lipstick is the easiest way to ‘change’ your face. On the days when you’re not feeling like yourself, put on some lip gloss, and you’re ready to face the world again 😀 . Another reason is other women love lipsticks too. It’s the simplest gift they would appreciate. I always keep extra brand new lipsticks in my house, just in case a friend or family is having a birthday, and I forget to pick up gifts.

As for blushes, well, it’s all because of FD . Believe it or not, before I joined FD, I had only 1 blush, MAC Gingerly. And then the collection has been growing exponentially. I’ve stopped counting my blushes since I needed a new shoe box to keep them. Blushes are so adorable. It can do anything to your whole look, from looking fresh, to tropical tan, even slimming out the extra pounds in your cheek. Amazing, isn’t it ? 😀 Not to mention the satisfaction you get when you have your hands on those limited edition items *I should go to LE Anonymous, right ? LOL*

How has FD affected your life?

At FD I find that I’m not the only one who’s addicted to lipsticks and blushes . I’ve met best friends in FD who share the same interest and are always ready to give advice on basically anything, from makeup, to skincare, to health, to handbags, even to financial issues. Thanks FD !

We’ve noticed that you lose quite a bit of weight in the past one year. What makes you think that you need to start going to the gym and changing your eating habits?

I’ve always been a chubby girl 😀 While people think it’s cute when we’re little, it’s not that cute anymore when we hit the obese zone. I gained a lot when I was doing my master degree. I worked in the morning, went to school in the evening, went to school again on weekends to do group assignments. All those crazy hours were completed with junk snacks, fast food delivery and late night “nasi goreng tek tek”.

Then I heard some of my relatives – I’ve always blamed my weight to family inheritance – got some health problems due to their weight. More and more people I know also got very sick because of their unhealthy lifestyle. At that time I started to think that I need to lose weight. But I still thought there’s no way people could lose weight that much in a ‘normal’ way. I always think that people could lose much only by doing liposuction, gastro bypass, or other kind of serious surgery.

One night I stumbled upon The Biggest Losers show on TV. It was a marathon show so I knew how those people struggled from over 300 lbs down to 100s-something lbs. Then I realized that if those people could afford the fight to lose weight, there’s no reason I can not do the same thing. After that, I did some research over the internet and books. And I finally I came to the idea that it’s not losing weight that I have to pursue, it’s more of healthier lifestyle.

How long does it take for you to reach to this stage?

I started on April 2009, and it’s still going…

As we all know, that it’s not an easy road you take there. So tell us the hardest challenge that you faced along the way?

It’s all in our mind. So the hardest challenge is to beat the voice in my head telling that I need a full portion of chicken noodle with meatball and dumplings for lunch, or that I need a big slice of cheesecake for dessert *giggling*. The hardest one was actually on Lebaran, when all meals are made with coconut milk, and jars of cookies are all over the place. That time was the only time I felt glad that my domestic assistant was away, so I could do all the house chores to beat the calories 😀

What’s your favourite type of exercise?

I’m a big fan of cardio dance classes. But I also enjoy RPM, combat, yoga, pilates. And I always add strength training to my daily exercise.

How do you feel now? Do you feel that you’re healthier now and what other changes have you felt that with this change of lifestyle?

I feel so much better, healthier, stronger. My metabolism improves so much. I lost weight. I dropped a few sizes. When I go shopping, I have more options now, which is not so good on my wallet *laughing*.

On the meal side, I also find that healthy meal is as enjoyable is those junk food. I remember that everytime I just finished a full lunch, I would get all drowsy after that. I could finish almost nothing because I could not concentrate. Now, with a lite lunch, I work better in the afternoon. I can survive afternoon meetings now 😀

The hardest part after the honeymoon period is to keep yourself motivated to keep going back week after week. Do you have any tips to keep ourselves motivated?

I’m lucky that my gym keeps updated their program every 3 months. So they have something new all the time, and I always have something to learn. I also challenge myself to a new level of exercise or new classes. My current project is going back to swimming after 20 years.

Lastly, in terms of real numbers, how much have you successfully shed in the last couple of months?

Since April, I’ve lost 25 kgs so far. And still counting as I’m still in the ‘Overweight’ zone.

And now this is Lita’s after photo:

Wow, don’t you think what Lita achieved so far is a big accomplishment already? I couldn’t even managed to shed 5 kgs, let alone 25 kgs! Good luck Lita and keep up the good work!
