MAC Studio Sculpt Foundation & Concealer

MAC’s newest foundation finally arrived in Indonesia! Some of you have probably purchased it from our beloved WellDefined-Ambient-72Market Plaza when the products hit MAC online store, but to those who didn’t, like myself, this is the chance for you to go to the nearest MAC counter and choose the right shade for your skin.

I was invited by MAC Indonesia for a foundation workshop a few weeks ago and I got to try Studio Sculpt SPF 15 Foundation and Concealer and I have to say, I was wowed! Here’s the thing, I have tried every single foundation that MAC has and while they are no doubt good products, I haven’t found anything that I could claim my HG foundation. Except Studio Moisture Tint, but that’s a tinted moisturizer and there are times when I need more coverage.

Studio Sculpt SPF 15 Foundation is a gel-based cream formula that provides medium buildable to high coverage. The formula is creamy and lush and I love LOVE how it gives me a nice, dewy finish while at the same time, I don’t feel like I’m wearing anything on my skin. Some people complained about this product being hard to blend but luckily, Darwyn Tse, MAC Indonesia Training Manager, FD’s unofficial resident makeup artist and a good friend of mine, showed me just the right tips on how to apply this foundation to achieve the oh-so-desired-flawless look :

– Begin with a pea size amount on the back of your hand (very important! a little goes a long way!)

– Spritz some Fix+ or Charged Water to your foundation brush (I used #187, Darwyn used #191) and apply onto hydrated skin. I can not stress enough the importance on getting your skin well-hydrated before applying this foundation because it’s so much easier to blend that way.

Vice President Global Makeup Artistry for MAC Worldwide, Gordon Espinet, also recommends mixing Studio Sculpt Foundation with your favorite moisturizer which will create a sheer, luminous finish that makes skin to appear to be candlelit.

Darwyn also used Studio Sculpt Concealer on my face to hide lighten the dark shadow under my eyes and some blemishes. I also fell in love with this concealer straight away. The formula is very thick and creamy so you really don’t need to use a lot. But it conceals beautifully and naturally. I use #224 brush and swipe it very lightly on the product and apply it on problem areas. I then tap it lightly with my finger too just to let the concealer really sink into my skin. That, combines with the foundation which I finish with MAC Blot Powder, is all I need to get polished, healthy-looking face and it lasts all day too! Seriously, I ask the gals at the office after lunch time whether my face looks shiny and Vanya said “No, your skin looks healthy.” ‘Nuff said :)

I also love Studio Sculpt Foundation squeeze tube packaging because it is lightweight (no glass bottle!) and dispenses just the right amount of product (remember, pea size only ladies!). For the concealer though, you have to make sure you close the lid of the glass jar really tightly otherwise the product will dry up fast. You don’t want that to happen because with the amount you need with every use, one jar will last you a long long time!

MAC Studio Sculpt SPF 15 Foundation and Concealer is available at MAC counters and retails for Rp. 365.000 (foundation) and Rp. 215.000 (concealer).
