BB Craze: Part I

bb-cream

BB Cream (Blemish Balm Cream) thread seems to be the speediest thread in Fashionese Daily (FD) Forum. It drives all the regulars antsy if they miss checking it out for a day or two, it even scares the rest of the members to even ask “what is BB Cream?” because they think they would disturb the BB sisterhood with such an innocent question.

Fret not because I will try to answer questions often asked about BB Cream, and to review 43 BB products (the cream and everything else you wouldn’t imagine exist in the BB world). I just have to tell you that I have this many products not because they are so worth it, but because it’s just me (couldn’t find a better reason *rolls the eyes*).

Before I go ahead writing all about BB, let me just share with you one of my frustrations (already??) with a good number of BB makers who are mostly Korean. Most of them do not have websites, and when they do, they don’t have an English translation. Considering that BB Cream is now big in Asia and most of South-East Asian countries such as Malaysia, Singapore, and Indonesia, not having a reading material in English seems to be a big drawback. How on earth would I know about the ingredients, the claims, and so on and so forth? What should I expect from a product that cannot tell me what the promises are? I don’t even know what I put on my face. I know there are pictures of some kind of plants or flowers in the website, but what are they and what do they do to my face? Hope those makers read this cry for help and rescue me from frustration.

The packaging doesn’t help as either. Only the name of the product is written in Roman alphabets, while everything else–if any–is in Korean. Oh, there IS one product of a brand we all know (it’s Missha) that uses everything Korean in the packaging. I even found no Missha name on it, I happened to know it was Missha because the seller said so. Oh dear..

I spend my me-time sipping coffee and enjoying Roti Boy at a nice Korean bakery not so far from my neighborhood (The Roti Boy is a nice knock-off anyway, tastes exactly the same with the real one :D). I wanted to befriend the sales assistants, hoping that they would be kind enough to sit down with me and help me with translation, but I found myself cringing every time because they were always occupied with work.

So, my best bet is Blogs like this one, and of course Korean sellers who are diligent enough to put English information in their listings, alongside the diagram and information in Korean.

Due to a large amount of product, I will review these in groups in the coming weeks, about 4 items in each article, so please bear with me. If you have any questions already, fire away and I’ll try to include the answer in the next articles.
