Drool-worthy Peacock-inspired Cosmetics

I have not been this excited about a local makeup collection in a while; that is, until my gaze fell on the peacock-inspired packaging of the new Sariayu collection, Cantika Jawa Timur (Beauty of East Java). Sariayu is part of the Martha Tilaar group of companies, and they regularly launch an Indonesia-themed collection annually. Over the last few years, however, the collections have not excited me at all, but Cantika Jawa Timur, wow! Even the adverts got me drooling, see for yourself!

The Cantika collection comprise of two themes, Reog (named after a traditional East Javan dance) and Merak Kasmaran (inspired by the Green Peacock that’s native to East Java), with each theme contain an eye shadow trio palette, three lipsticks, and two duo lip gloss tubes. All of the colors are pigmented; the double-ended lip gloss each has one sheer and one opaque color. The lipsticks and lip glosses have a fruity flavor and scent to them, which to me resembles markisa (passion fruit); sun protection of SPF15 is promised (the active ingredient is Ethylexyl Methoxycinnamate, a form of Octynoxate, a broad spectrum protection against ultra violet radiation).

The Reog collection is themed around reds and neutral colors. The R3 lipstick could be a staple for everyday use, and topped off with the sheer end of the R2 lip gloss, makes for a neutral lip to match a strong eye.

The outstanding part of Cantika in my opinion, however, is the Merak Kasmaran set of eye shadows, lipsticks and lip glosses. The peacock turquoise color in the eye shadow palette is to die for! Pat it on the lower lid, blend it upwards and voila, it’s all you need for a striking eye. The yellow gold color is a lovely match for the peacock; when blended together they create the loveliest green shade. The purple is a great all around color for shading the outer corners of your eyes, to darken your crease, or to use as eyeliner. There is even a little mirror inside the palette.

The Merak Kasmaran set of three lipsticks are also outstanding, and I especially love MK1, a blue-based reddish-pink. Even though it seems to be a cool color, I think warm-toned gals would find this lovely on them. The MK2 lip gloss matches the MK 1 and 2 lipsticks perfectly.

The Cantika collection also includes a mascara and eyeliner duo in black.

The only irks I have about this collection is that the lovely peacock prints are not engraved on the tubes of the lipsticks and lip glosses, but are actually printed on their outer plastic wrap—so take care when you unwrap them if you want to keep the prints. Also, blushes would have rounded off the collection nicely.

A small proceed from the sale of Cantika collection items will benefit WWF Indonesia, an organization dedicated to conserving natural resources and the environment. WWF will use some of the money for conservation work at the Alas Purwo National Park in East Java, the habitat of the Green Peacock.

A beautiful collection, contribution to the environment and friendly prices—ladies, run, don’t walk, to find these little gems, because they are hot and flying off the counters faster than you can say Merak Kasmaran ada di Taman Nasional Alas Purwo! :D

Where to buy: all Sariayu counters at major (and minor) department stores. Prices range from Rp29,000 to Rp33,000 at my local store.
