With the ongoing economic meltdown, we would see more designers’ collaborations with mass retailers and labels to attract savvy shoppers who are now watching their wallet closely. We’ve all heard about the successful collaborations of A-lisdesigners with GAP, Kohl’s, Walmart, H&M’s and Target.*watch out for Target’s future collaboration with Alexander McQueen!

Meanwhile, Payless ShoeSource chose to collaborate with a number of B-list designers; Lela Rose, Abaete, Alice + Olivia, and recently, Patricia Field (the stylist/costume designer of SATC). Being a highly affordable footwear brand, I think it would be fair that we give credits to Payless this time. Payless will be launching its Holiday ’08 Designer Collection. There’s a sneak preview of its upcoming collection from coutorture.com and some of the collection can be found online. The Patricia Field for Payless platform sandals (photo K & M below) definitely look like the Dior Extreme Gladiators that Carry wore on SATC movie, minus the Dior price tag! From all the designers for Payless, the only ones that really caught my eyes, are the Alice + Olivia and Patricia Field collections, although I’m questioning about their durability and comfort level.
